Help me figure this out ...p

we are approaching snow bird age. Actually approached, past tense is more accurate. Desperate to avoid scraping snow off windshield at best, shoveling at worst, an entire NY winter, Not particularly interested, now anyway, in renting or buying something in central or southern Florida.

However, we do presently have 250 points in Boulder Ridge. Thinking if we bought another 100 points we’d have enough for a studio at BR for maybe 3 weeks in March or April.

In effect we’d be renting a winter break at our favorite place for an expenditure that we’d only be laying out once, minus the dues, instead of a yearly rental or a major outlay for an outright purchase.

I spoke to a rep at WL yesterday who tried to talk me into Copper Creekpoints at $182 per. As much as I’d like CC I see no reason to lay out that kind of bucks when I can hopefully purchase resale of BR through DVC.

Does this make sense?

I would look into resales from elsewhere (not DVC) with your same use year. It'll be a LOT cheaper than going through Disney and you already have the full member perks from your initial contract. I looked at The Timeshare Store and asking price for Boulder Ridge is $99 per point. Boulder Ridge is at $171 through DVC.

It makes a lot of sense, except for one thing.

Since you already own DVC and understand the system, you can definitely save a lot of money by purchasing resale. However, you will most likely not be buying through Disney. You will be buying through a broker that specialized in DVC resales.
You could buy through Disney, but their prices tend to be much higher than the prices on the private resale market.

Would you want to stay for 3 weeks in the same resort? or possibly want to try other resorts. Just seems to me that 3 weeks in one spot might grow old. I am just bringing up this point to increase your options of looking at another resort for your second contract. But for sure go resale - you certainly be able to buy more points resale vs direct (maybe extend your trip to a full month)

I’d suggest buying same UY for BR resale as it will be cheaper. If it were me I’d probably buy resale for BWV, Poly, or BLT. Would find it nice if I was there for 3 weeks to stay at another resort especially if I do this every year,

I'd be really tempted to buy whatever points are cheapest (unless you want BWV standard view). Snowbird season isn't overcrowded. I'd also be really tempted to switch resorts during your snowbird time more than once - getting into a one bedroom - probably at OKW where its cheap - for a few days of laundry and home cooking. Being a potential future snowbird from Minnesota, I've thought about it and thought that if we took four days to drive down and back - taking our time because we don't want a huge drive through the night road trip like we did when we were 40 years younger, and take that amount of time to come back, spend a couple of nights in a one bedroom for cooking and laundry - we could get a decent snowbird out of 300 points (which would be an every other year trip for us)

Given your stage in life and potential volume of usage you might look at other timeshares that would be cheaper and give other ? better options (esp non WDW options).
