My incredibly wonderful future-in-laws decided to pay for a honeymoon for Fencer (The DFi) and me--but there's a twist:

They get to surprise us with where we're going! A lot of people think this is crazy, but I love it! And they (especially MIL) have loved planning it, from what I can gather.

These are the clues we have so far (I think they're spilling the beans at my "surprise" shower in April...how I found out about it is another thread in itself!):

1. Leave Chicago O'Hare at 6PM, get in at 8AM at "mystery destination"

2. Two other short flights of about two hours or less each throughout the trip (we don't know when, or how long after the original flight)

3. When we get to the first place we'll have to drive somewhere.

Anyone want to start speculating with me? :Pinkbounc :bounce:

It's Hawaii. Sounds almost identical to a trip we took a few years ago. The red-eye flights, the inter-island flights are the shorter flights you'll take. When you arrive on Oahu you'll have to drive from the airport to the more resort like parts of the island. Yep, I'm bettin' on Hawaii!!!

Sounds like a blast! What day of the week are you leaving, we might be able to narrow down the flights that way ;)

Could be Europe. Leave ORD in the evening, arrive next morning in London or Paris or Frankfurt etc.
Visit other cities (short flights).
Do you have passports?

I say Europe - the little flights are intercontinent flights. As a rule - I know alot of European travel leaves O'Hare between 4-6p.

I think we'll be leaving at 6PM on a Sunday--the wedding is on a Saturday.

Oooh...My future-MIL's Sister just helped plan a honeymoon for her daughter to Hawaii...if so, that could have inspired her! I wonder.... :sunny:

We both have passports, and I'm fluent in French & can get by in Greek and Italian...so that could be...

I don't like surprises, so I wouldn't like this. Not to mention I doubt I'd want to step foot anywhere that my MIL would send us. :rotfl: Are they at least going to tell you where before you leave so you can pack? Also, what if you have to buy certain items before hand? I'm glad you're happy with this, but it so would not fly with me.

I don't think its Hawaii. I looked on Expedia and there are no flights to HNL after 12 noon from ORD.

My guess was Europe, too. Another idea could be Australia or New Zealand? I haven't looked up all the time changes, etc. though.

:rotfl: Yeah, they're letting us know with enough time before hand to pack, make sure we have everything, etc.

I love surprises--besides, if I knew where we were going right now, I'd be wanting to research it extensively--and that on top of working full-time, preparing to go back to school and planning the wedding would kill me!! :goodvibes

As it is, I can just leave it in her hands (she's great--almost as great as my mom. Not quite, but almost. :lovestruc ), and not think about it until I'm on the plane.

LOL, I was about to post...I take it back it probably can't be hawaii from ORD. So next, I'd have to say Europe. But it's not to Paris, because they stop those flights before 5pm it looks like.

This is a great game! Tell them your online community needs another clue! :rotfl:

When are you getting married? How long are we going to have to wait to find out where you are going?

ziggystardust: That could be! I studied for a while on Crete when I was in undergrad, and they know how much I loved it.

golfgal:we're getting married at the end of May, but I'm hoping to find out by April!!

It isn't Hawaii......most flights out of Ohare leave in the morning for there, and if it is a straight through flight (9 hours) you would be landing in Honolulu about 9 pm their time (depending on the time of the year it is a 5 or 6 hour time difference.........so you would actually land at 3am then subtract either 5 or 6 hours so it would be either 9 or 10 pm their time......I am thinking it could be either Europe or perhaps Austrailia? maybe another Pacific island........now we will be waiting patiently to hear the answer!!!

I was going to say St Thomas, but then I realized how long you said the flight was...I would say somewhere in Europe.

The flights make more sense for europe than Hawaii I think. 8am in Hawaii would be noon in chicago. so that would be 18hrs of travelling. Unless you have a big layover that seems too long. 6pm to 8am in the morning is perfect for a Europe flight. Last month i left philadelphia at 4 and got to Germany at 6am. Seems a little too short for a flight to italy or greece so my guess is the first flight is to London or Paris but that doesn't tie with the driving comment? going the other way you could be in Australia or Tahitti at 8am on Tuesday morning?

I checked the flights from Chicago to Sydney and Melbourne and they all leave in the evening. It has to be some place in Europe.
