Help me figure out gasoline costs?

We've never driven before and we're about 1100 miles away. I plugged it into the online fuel calculator and it says $130 each way! 260 total? That seems high considering both of us could fly for about $250 more. Just want to make sure it is worth it before we commit to driving. We get probably 22 or 23 mpg on the highway, less in city driving. What do you use as the average gasoline cost per gallon, as I know it can vary by up to 70 cents in my own town, so it is hard to estimate when we're going through like 8 states. Your help would be appreciated!

1100 miles at 22MPG means you'll use about 50 gallons of gas each way.

If they're telling you $130 each way, then they are using an average of $2.60/gallon. That's pretty reasonable IMO.

We just drove from Northern Ohio to Disney in June. About 2230 miles RT and we spent about $210 on gas. I used http://www.fuelcostcalculator.com/ and it was fairly accurate.
