I found an excellent rate on a 2 bedroom at Old Key West on Redweek.com for 12 days from now. The gentleman exchanged through interval and can't use the reservation. Any advice on how to handle this transaction for us both to feel comfortable? Neither of us have rented before

Thanks

Just an FYI: Even though it's done, it's against II policy for the gentleman to rent out a trade he receives through their company. I'm not saying that it's never done... just letting you know that it is against II's policy. Also, unless something has changed, you will be charged a "resort fee" of around $100 (I forget the exact amount) when you check into the DVC resort. This is in addition to what you pay for the points.

I agree, and if it works out to being more than $10 a point plus the resort charge, you would be better off renting from a DVC member directly and avoiding the resort exchange fee.

So, if I rented from a DVC member, I don't have to pay any other fee, right?

Right. It is only those booking through an Interval International exchange that pay the "transportation" fee. There also will be no tax charged when renting from an owner.
