I am trying to choose a cruise for my 50th birthday. My family has only cruised Disney, about 10 times. We are now empty-nesters so this would be a cruise with just me and my husband. We absolutely love Disney, but are considering trying something new. We love nighttime entertainment and shows, are not big sport or adventure, people, and prefer pools to beaches. Our current choices are:
1. Oasis of the seas going to Curacao, Aruba and coco Cay
2. Icon of the seas going to Porta Costa, Maya, Honduras Coco Cay and Cozumel.
3. Disney Treasure going to Grand Cayman, Jamaica and.Castaway Cay

We like the itinerary of the Oasis best. However, the other ships seem more interesting with their newness and their better theater productions. We know we enjoy Disney cruises so I’m a little hesitant to try something new. Any insights or advice?

We have only ever cruised royal so can't compare it to disney but based on your three choices I'd pick Icon. Icon is a destination all on its own and worth exploring. Oasis is good but the shows on Icon are far superior. You will not be disappointed you went on Icon and most likely saved money by not cruising disney

I would choose Oasis based on two things...
1) Have never been to Curacao or Aruba. Have been to Costa Maya, Roatan (Honduras), and Cozumel.
2) Price. Icon is still so new, it's more than likely (worth comparing) much more expensive than Oasis. Guessing it will also have more families (kids) on board depending on what time you're planning on going.

Icon probably does have better shows (Oasis has Cats but people either love it or hate it).

I did a cruise to Alaska on Celebrity for my 50th.
DD is getting married on the Oasis next month. We are doing the southern Caribbean port Everglades to Aruba , Cozumel and Coco cay Bahamas. We would not have picked it because there are only 3 port days in an 8 day cruise. That’s a lot of time at sea. Yeah, agree on Cats. I like musicals but not Cats. Aruba is great. I love it.

Hi! We just did Oasis of the Seas Aruba, Curacao and Coco Cay. We have done several cruises but these were the best ports ever! Curacao is a gem to just walk around the port- so beautiful! Coco Cay is truly a perfect day! If your looking to try something new, the shows on the Oasis are wonderful except for Cats, but the Aqua show and Ice skating shows are amazing. The Solarium is a very beautiful place for just adults!

Icon, especially if you like shows. The Wizard of Oz was the most broadway-calibre stage show I've seen on a cruise ship (for comparison I had previously seen Grease on Harmony and Rock of Ages on Anthem). Icon's watershow has a bit more Cirque-de-Soleil type acrobatics than the water show on Oasis class.

Perhaps it’s recency bias, but I liked icon as a ship more than the Oasis class ones. It will also be less worn down compared to oasis if that matters much. The question is whether its higher price point makes it worthwhile. If it's your first time cruising Royal you will find Oasis is great too, and its itinerary is better than Icon's.

This is the one we will be on for our daughter’s wedding. We already planned to spend time in the solarium so I’m glad to hear it’s nice!

I have done all Disney ships and ICON, Utopia booked next then DCL Treasure and Destiny. Without kids, I would choose Royal. ICON was amazing, we liked the Wonder OTS even better. I like the itinerary of that Oasis cruise and probably the price too. You can have a nice suite or save money and cruise twice on Royal compared to Disney prices. The difference in price is getting really outrageous.

Also my family goes to Broadway shows in NYC multiple times a year and I liked ICON's Wizard of Oz better than Broadway. Icon shows were amazing. Also all the seating areas around the ship. Never crowded except during the parade.

I've been on Oasis and Icon. Oasis is great but Icon is Wow. My entire family loved Icon and now our favorite ship. There are tons of included food options, amazing neighborhoods (Central Park on this one is so pretty), love the Overlook with the views (and great new coffee bar) and the shows are great. I like how the Aqua theatre is now indoors, the ice show is very good and loved Wizard of Oz. For night time, Dueling Pianos is fun and you have the standard Schooner Bar, Music Hall and other stuff. Also we didn't go but if you want a splurge I heard great things bout the Supper Club. One impressive thing too is that although the ship is huge, it rarely felt crowded.
Of course the Treasure looks great too and you are a Disney fan.

Let us know what you decide.
P.S. - CoCo Cay on Royal options is great!
