My DH and I will be at the Universal Resort sometime in February for two nights.

We do this once a year, but since he was in the Army we haven't done it in about three!:scared1:

Now that we live in NY, trips to FL are extra special to us because it's not just a last minute weekend thing anymore.

I want to splurge a little and stay onsite. (We usually do the Doubletree, but I HATE that walk. Especially after having a few at Citywalk!)

I love the ambiance of the Royal Pacific, but I also really like the Hard Rock.

The problem is that I feel like the Hard Rock won't be as relaxing as the Royal Pacific or Portofino(which is technically my last choice, but not out of the question).

So, which onsite hotel would you guys recommend for a couple? I don't want to feel like I am at Disney surrounded by kids(I know they will be everywhere, but I hope someone gets what I am trying to say).

Well the Hard Rock is the only hotel of the 3 that has the rad pool slide and since Universal encourages pool hoping, I would surmise all the kids would be at that pool combine that with the cabanas and you have less of a relaxing time and more of a fun party atmosphere.

PBH has a really fun slide too but since it is further away, less people with kids seem to go there.

If you want quiet, PBH is the way to go.

Oh I didn't know that. PBH reminds me more of a couples resort.

My vote is for the RPH. My wife and I have stayed here by ourselves on several trips. Lately, we've gone with 2 other couples (my parents, and my sister and her husband). The restaurants are good: Emeril's Tchoup Chop, Jake's American Bar, and Islands Dining Room. We also love the laid-back atmosphere of the hotel.

As much as I love HRH I would pick PBH and RPR over it for a couples only trip looking for a little tranquility. HRH is fun and bustling with energy.

If your trip falls around the February break it likely will be quite crowded no matter where you decide on and filled with kids. In that case I would look at PBH over RPR because it will have less kids.

I am new to the winter recess thing...We are supposed to be there the week after Valentine's Day. It says that is low season. Whenever we go during Valentine's Day week, it's pretty nice crowd-wise. Is the next week that different?

And thank you for the advice guys. I am leaning toward RP or PBH...

Winter recess is Feb 16 - 25. That is presidents week/winter break. We went during that time once and the crowds were not low season crowds. Not like Christmas or Spring Break busy but crowded. Winter break for some schools not all. Your bigger issue will be getting air from NY - have you looked?

You will be on-site you will be fine! :thumbsup2

We're driving lol...I can't bring myself to pay at least $2000 for flights for our family of 4!

I hear ya! SWA had a sale last week and I was able to book air for $200 a ticket! I haven't seen that sale in years. It was only good for travel through November though. As a kid we did the drive often and she was definitely over the line and in my spot!:lmao::rotfl:

Our kids are actually REALLY good on long drives. The first time we drove up here from TX for Christmas they were horrendous! But the next trip to FL from TX(16 hours) wasn't bad and suprisingly enough they were great on the last drive here(27 hours).

As long as we keep the Leapsters charged and the snacks/juice flowing they are ready.
