We are debating whether to go the week of Memorial day (last week of May) or the first week in October.

We went in October last year and it was great in terms of weather and crowds, but my son had to miss 3 days of school (okay, but not ideal).

We went in late may two years ago and it was super hot, but it was a no-parks trip, so we spent most of our time at the pool. This time we'll likely visit MK once.

I'm leaning towards May because of a) school and b) less time to wait before our trip ;)...however, ticket prices are higher in May, it can get pretty hot, and we'll have limited resort choices (if we rent DVC).

As for crowds, I'm guessing late May is pretty bad? October wasn't bad at all, but I hear that things are getting busier in the Fall.

Thoughts?

I think if last year proved anything, it’s that weather and crowds can be unpredictable! I would go at whichever time suits your family best. If missing school isn’t a big deal, I’d go for October to see Toy Story Land, and for the halloween parties.

I would do October. Weather is a little cooler and crowd calendars are guessing it will be quite a bit less busy than Memorial Day weekend. Also, it is suspected Toy Story land will open Memorial Day weekend, which could make it even more crazy.

I don't think missing 3 days of school is a bit deal at all. We are looking at Labor Day week and my boys would miss 4 days of school. They will be in 6th and 10th grade. We have taken them 3rd week of September twice, and they missed a full 5 days. It was not a problem for us.

Also, this is just me, but I would feel rushed just starting to plan a trip now for May. I really enjoy the anticipation and planning and that's just not enough time for me! LOL.

Whichever you choose, I would book soon! Last year people trying to book October had a hard time getting rooms later. We go October every trip. Went last year, definitely more crowded and we had a cold snap. The crowds were manageable though. Did the Halloween party again.

Our next trip, in a couple years, we decided on early May. Want to see the Flower/Garden show and also want to be able to swim. The cold weather was not fun in October, but that is definitely not the norm. :) And honestly, while the party is fun, got tired of MK being closed early most nights of the week.
