Help me decide what makes most sense

The Epcot Lounge is temporary, although it's been extended more than once. Once they really start ripping up that area, expect it to close.

TOTW is actually part of the condo association, run by contract. They cannot restrict owners from TOTW.

Thanks for the info!

Interesting! I know they changed things in 2016 so that if you ONLY have points purchased on the resale market, you won't have access to perks like discounted AP's, the after hours events they are currently doing, etc. Those who had purchased only resale prior to that date though were grandfathered in I believe. My plan is to buy the lion share of my points on resale, then get a small 25 point allotment direct through Disney in order to gain those benefits. Also worth noting - these so called perks can go away at any time - they are not a guaranteed benefit, unfortunately.
All the best with your decision and purchase. So glad we finally joined.

Good to know! Thanks.

This has been helpful to me, even though we have been members since 1995! We switched home resorts in 2001 (?) from OKW to BCV (sold and bought back in direct) and have been sitting on the BCV points since then (but not using at BCV the last 10 years, staying at other DVC properties). Currently wanting to switch to BR. I bought 25 points there last week, without understanding that use years should be the same with multiple contracts! I never understood that. My use year is June, which I liked because we usually travelled in August or October. (But I seem see few BR resale contracts listed-- I thought they sold equal amounts of each use year, but now I know that is not true). I think juggling just those 25 points with a different use year will not be too bad, since it is a small amount. I will try for June, but if I see one I like that is another use year, I will be tempted.

I could see them requiring larger add-ons to qualify for all the perks, in the future, that is a good point, too. The Epcot lounge is my favorite perk EVER. Because it is open every day, and available, not just one day here and there like the parties. If they close the lounge there, I hope they offer another perk that is similar in availability.

I don't think you have to have exactly the same UY for multiple contracts. Yes, it may be easier to manage, but in our case they are OCT & NOV. They are so close that they don't really affect how we manage our reservations. Just wouldn't want someone to think that having different UY completely wrecks all your planning ability. Some owners may prefer planning 2 trips a year for Fall and then Summer. Having different use years could work for them.

Different UY's equals separate memberships. Separate Dues bills, mailings, and you can't combine the points to use at 7 months unless you transfer points and transferring has it's own issues. Can it be done, sure, but don't buy different UY's unless you need to.
