Help me decide on transport

Hi,

I live near Exeter and I'm visiting the resort over the weekend.

I'm looking to book transport today (last minute I know )

I have 2 options both cost about the same.

1) Business Premier Class on Eurostar from Waterloo, this is the top ticket I think with access to the lounges

2) Fly from Exeter with Flybe

I'm having trouble deciding I don't mind driving to London for Eurostar as I prefer not having the hassle of Airports.


Advantages of Flying:

Quicker
Arrive Earlier in the Day
No drive home

Advantages of Eurostar:

Better Service (free drinks!)
No transfer
Taking my laptop and they have sockets in the business section so I can play games / write my trip report.

So everyone please vote on this, to help me decide.

Thanks for the votes so far. I've just about decided on flying when:

Looking at the Flybe site on ther 21st they canceled the Paris Flight completly.

Due to extreme weather conditions across the UK today some Flybe services have been affected by freezing fog and therefore regrettably we have been forced to cancel the following flights:

There is only 1 flight a day on a Saturday the next on is 17:30 on Sunday.

I don't know if this might happen again

But if your flight was cancelled due to bad weather conditions, would they be conditions you would be happy to drive in?

Trouble with airlines is that it is a knock-on effect. DH had his flight at Southampton airport cancelled on Monday because there was freezing fog at Manchester and BA couldn't get the plane out of there. Yet the weather conditions were fine down here, albeit a little cold
This is the reason we booked the Eurostar at Christmas, we were too worried that our flight may be affected by adverse weather. Touch wood that the Eurostar will not be affected!

To decide at 10:30 the Met Office (based in Exeter) is updating their Severe weather warning then.

Currently it looks like Exeter is clear on Saturday Morning. But Friday night is still

Flybe Booked!

I decided against a drive from London on the return day. Maybe next time for Eurostar 1st class, and schedule a night in a hotel on the way back.

We land ad CDG at 08:55 which is nice and early.

Can't wait!!

I think the convenience of flying from Exeter cannot be beaten personally

Whereabouts are you in Exeter Chris? I am literally 5 mins drive from Exeter Airport which has to be better than 2 1/2 - 3 hours on the train to Paddington, then across London to Waterloo, then 3 hours on the Eurostar. From my perspective, anyway

Yep the distance to the airport swang it for me. Will have to see what Flybes like.

Living up in North Devon - I'm also tempted by FlyBe's services to CDC from Exeter.

My hesistant at Flybe is that the pricing seem a tad on the steep side? But that could be my tight wallet (my wallet struggles with the DLRP thing - on one hand it doesn't want to open - on the other hand it accepts the DLRP, can be a place of expense!).

Hey, I live in North Devon too, Iain!

Personally I would go for Flybe. You will have a LOT more time at the park as Eurostar pretty much takes out about 3/4 of a day from your holiday! We will probably be going by plane wherever possible in the future.

I suppose Eurostar is only the best option if you live in, or near, London or Ashford. I think you made the right choice to fly. Have fun

We have looked into flying next summer but Thomson who fly from Bournemouth have changed from CDG to Orly, don't know how easy it is to get from Orly to DLRP. I think we will go on the Eurostar again because we do like to combine it with a night or two in London.

Thanks chrismoo. I will have to look into it. The other thing that put me off was both flights were very early in the day. As far as I am concerned the earlier the flight the better on the day we go, it means more time in the parks LOL, but the return flight home was at either 8am or 9am whereas going on the eurostar gives us an extra day in the parks. Hmmm, I'll have to investigate further for next August. I am sure I heard that Thomas Cook are going to start flying out of Bournemouth too.
