Help me decide: AKV Savannah view or BLT?

Just got back from BCV. Not impressed in the least. The pool is too small for all those people in the Yacht and Beach Club plus the BCV. Could someone help me with either the AKV or BLT. I have never stayed at either place. Has anyone stayed at both places and perferred one over the other? Thanks in advance.

I have only stayed at BLT but have stayed at BCV. We thought SAB was very busy and we are not the type of people that want to be around all that "busy"ness so we spend our time at the quiet pool.

At BLT, there is only one pool but you have access to the CR pool as well. We were there the first week in August and the pool began to get a bit crowded between 2:00 - 3:00 pm each day. But, even then, it was not super crowded and the heat index all those days was at least 100!!! There were always chairs of some sort available for use.

we have stayed at the BLT and loved it there. it is a short walk to the MK and easy to get around anywhere. the pool is kind of small and it is the only one there but you can use the one next door at the Contempory. Also you can go to the top and watch the fireworks if you want. I have not stayed at the AKV but have heard the major issue there is getting around since you are far from everything.

just spent 6 nights at akv savannah view, then 5 nights at blt mk view, the beginning of august. yes the pool was not giant at blt, but that didn't seem to be a big problem. you have to use room key to get access to pool area and then again to get access to pool itself. pool is not for cr guests, only blt guests. i know that you can wait for someone to open and then go in behind them, but this doesn't seem to be a big problem, yet. the pool at samawati springs is larger, and more shaded areas. but it also doesn't seem to be overrun.

as for the two resorts, they are both beautiful for different reasons. and location for both has pros and cons. we liked the fact that we could have two different types of locales in vacation. in the middle of everything at blt and away from it all at akv. transportation from akv isn't that much different than other dvc non-monorail resorts, say vwl. the parks that are convenient to akv are inconvenient to vwl/blt and vice versa.

with a savannah view, i would try to get a zazu/timon room if possible. balcony faces west and this means that it is shaded in the morning, which brings more animals around, and sun not beating down on us, when we are more likely to sit out there, since we are more likely to be at a park in the afternoon. at blt the best mk views start with rooms that end in numbers below 30, i.e. 7430, which was our room. that is the fourth floor, 14th and 15th floors are the grand villas. so if possible you want something like 7416 or 7814, these have the absolute best views, according to a maintenence eng, i talked to. if you you look at building design you can see why this is so, because of curvature. our room had very nice view, but space mt, part of mk was blocked a little bit.

all in all we were very pleased with both resorts and already planning to work in a couple of days at blt our next wdw trip, no matter what resort we spend most of the time at.

We have stayed at Jambo (prior to joining DVC), Kidani, and BLT. We enjoyed all three, but for different reasons.

Resort preferences are a personal choice. As DVC Mike once put it, choosing a resort is like choosing an ice cream flavor. Everyone has their own preference.

AKV has the animals, African art, African culture, etc. It truly felt like we had two vacations in one (parks and a remote African hotel).

BLT has easy access to MK, lake activities, monorail, and easy access to the monorail and WL resorts.

We didn't have a chance to use the Kidani pool (December, raining, and cold when we were there).

If BLT's pool is too small, it's a very short walk to the CR pool. At BLT, some prefer the CR pool (and beach area) because it's in the sun most of the day. Others prefer BLT's pool area, because the building blocks the sun in the afternoon/evening. It's also easy to hop on the monorail/boat for pool hopping (assuming you are DVC members it's not blacked out).

I've stayed at both.

My answer: Split stay. As others have expressed both have their benefits. I have no issue moving and have done it twice and will be doing it again in November. BLT and BCV.

If you're worried about the pool being crowded, then i'd say go with BLT.

You'd have access to 2 feature pools and a quiet pool: One pool at BLT itself, the feature pool at the contemporary and the quiet pool at the contemporary. BLT's pool can get pretty busy, but I don't think i've ever seen the pools at the contemporary "busy".

AKV will only be two pools... and they would both be pretty far apart. And they are both just a titch too small for the resort...so they get busy.

We recently did a split stay at both....I far more preferred BLTs location on property! It was great!

But...Kidani's pool was by far better then BLT! Tough Choice!

I agree. We just got back from Kidani & that pool is way too small for the size of the resort. The Jambo pool is a bit bigger but crowded & there are no quiet pools at AKV. I haven't stayed at BLT. If you think SAB is too small you probably won't be happy with the pool at Kidani either.

I prefer a savannah view at AKV to BLT, but still they are both wonderful resorts. Take a pick an try either one...you know you'll most likely be trying them all!

We've stayed at Jambo House 3 times, BLT once, and BCV once.

(In fact, last month's trip was a split stay between AKV and BLT.)

We definitely have a preference - AKV.

We love the lush tropical feel of the pool area at Jambo. Last year, we tried out Kidani's pool, and did not like it as much as Jambo. Jambo's pool is actually a pretty decent size as far as hotel pools go.

Plus, the whole resort just has a wonderful ambiance to it. It's just really beautiful. Plus, we LOVE all the restaurants there! And we love animals, so it's really a no-brainer!

The only thing we liked about BLT was the proximity to MK - it was great to not have to worry about buses after a 2 am EMH! (Also - the bed was very comfy.)

BLT's pool is probably one of the smallest I've ever seen! Who approved that design?!?!? It's SO tiny. And we didn't really have time to be walking back and forth over to the Contemporary.

We also didn't like the "modern" look of the place. Just not our taste, I guess. We won't be staying again at BLT anytime soon.

As far as comparing transportation - at least at AKV, it's just two buildings right next to eachother when it comes to bus sharing. At BLT, you're sharing the buses with the Poly, so that added extra time to every bus ride.
