Help me convince my wife that she'll have a great time at Vero Beach!

Hi, we plan to visit VB during the 1st week of August: DW, DD (15), DS (10) and I. I've been there with the kids last week of August a few years ago and we loved the place. My wife is however afraid she won't have much to do during the day. She does not tolerate the heat very well, but she is up very early so we can certainly enjoy the beach early in the morning (great for Turtles) and late afternoon.

Do you have ideas about what we can do indoors during the day (any place with A/C, including things to do at the resort and within a 45 min drive). Shopping and movies are not part of what she likes. We enjoy museums, especially science, nature and history. Short walks outside are fine, as long as there is some shade. All I found for now is Cape Carnaveral.

Oh, she also enjoys good restaurants, hopefully we have some great options for lunch in the area?

We were at Vero a few years ago. My kids were 17 and 13 and although we had a great time, there really isnt much to do. Especially at night. Everything closes very early and nothing for the teens to do at night.

We enjoy going out to nice restaurants at home and away, and really found there wasnt too much around.

Like I said, we had a great time, it was vacation, but I would choose another beach vacation before I went back to Vero

I hate to tell you this, but if your wife is not a beach person VB is not for you. That is basically all there is to do. Yes, you can go to Cape Canaveral and spend a day there but other than that there isn't much else. Shopping isn't all that great either.

1 added question if I might add? I originally have a reservation for 3 nights prior to going to the BWV, I was thinking about switching it to only 2 & adding a 9th night for BWV....Or is 2 nts. not enough here.?

OP, This is exactly what my thread said too. That is why I asked if you were using points. If you are using points and want a little beach time OK but its literally all there is to do and your dd-15 will be very bored. We LOVE the beach but I wont book here again unless I need a beach vacation, cant afford it that year and will use my points. Otherwise, Ill go to the NJ shore.

I love Vero but I love hanging out at the pool, walking the beach, playing tennis, working out. There really isn't mich else to do. I have been there in August. Gets pretty hot and the pool is like a Bath. but the green cabin room is fun to hang out in evening for drinks and t listen to music. I think the food is pretty good on site. Favorite restaurant offsite is ocean grill. Not sure they are open for lunch. But we go for early dinner. People line up at five to get a table by the windows...it's right on the water.

3 nights are here at VB, and the other 8 or 9 are at BWV....My sig. shows all of our previous trips, and yes we are DVC members.

We went to VB once and two nights were plenty. We prefer the Gulf side beaches - wide expansive beaches, sugar white sand, warm water. Not really what you find at VB.

You have a bunch of advise, saying the same thing, so you can make tour decision. 2-3 nights are plenty if your also adding Disney.

Vero beach makes for a nice 2-3 day stay. Especially, if you are going to WDW first, it makes for a nice finish. Note: there is boating around Indian lake in Sebastian.

McKee Botanical Garden gets good reviews on Trip Advisor. I was planning to go there during my last trip, but we had enough to do around the resort during my 3 day visit (and only spent time on the beach once).

DH and I love VB. I cannot walk on sand any more, so that restricts what we can do, but I never run out of things to do in the area. I think the NJ coast is wonderful, we have a home in Cape May, but I think Vero Beach is spectacular, and DH agrees with me, and he NEVER liked going into the ocean, so it's not about swimming in the ocean for us. However, I spend time on our balcony reading, looking at the ocean, people in it, birds especially the pelican flocks that go by. The water changes colors, it's a wonderful resort.

I've been to McKee Botanical Garden and have seen some great exhibits. They have a Lego display now that looks interesting!

We did 4 nights at Vero before driving over to Orlando and doing 2 nights at Universal (in Aug of 2012). My kids were 15, 13 and 13. They were bored there, though we did LOVE the beach. There isn't much on the island at all...really nothing but the resort. You must drive off the island for groceries and dining and it takes about 15 minutes. But here is what we did find to do. We ate at the restaurant there 2 nights and it was really good...used TIW card. We drove off island and ate at a nice seafood place. We booked a swamp airboat tour one morning...drove about 45 minutes to get to it and stopped at IHOP for late breakfast (brunch) on the way back to the resort. DH and I liked to sit up in The Green Cabin Room for cocktails and bar snacks. They have tables on a balcony overlooking the ocean.

We could NOT get on the beach at night. Not sure why but the gate was locked while we were there, maybe due to turtles hatching. It also stormed every evening for a very brief time. We did get in the pool one night right after a storm and we were the only 5 people in it. The pool chairs get reserved with towels and bags (like on cruise ships) really early. So if you want table/chairs at the pool, you might want to go out early. Most of the villas have no good view of the ocean. The inn rooms are better. There is a thick tall green wall of bushes that separate the resort from the beach except for around the inn. Beach and pool access is gated and uses a key card for access (room key). They have a sports field across the street that we never saw being used but we did walk over there and stroll around.

For the person who asked...2 nights would be fine there. 3 wouldn't be bad either, but 4, for us, was a little too long.

We went 5 years ago in mid August, had fabulous weather, and had a really GREAT 3 night stay there! A great wind down for us after 4 nights/5 days in the parks! A VERY MEMORABLE vaca as my late father in law, niece and our great nephew who resided in South Florida met us for a very enjoyable stay! Really enjoyed our 2 BR there! Hope that you ENJOY TOO!

I have a chance to book a 1 br for a week in April. Is there enough to keep my 2 & 4 year old entertained? I figure we'll spend most days in the pool or on the beach but is there anything off site worth doing?

My in-laws have a house in Vero right across the street from the Disney property. We could stay for free if we wanted to, but we never go. We went twice and found it boring. Other than the beach/pool (which we have at home - we own a shore house), there isn't anything to do.

Sorry, but I wouldn't recommend more than 2/3 nights there, especially with older kids.

If you think Vero Beach is boring, you should see Hilton Head! Unless you golf or ride bikes.
