I want to go back to Disney! I want to use my PIN code! I want to spend time with my mom! Don't you think if you put all of those things together that iy would make sense to do a short weekend trip to Disney with my mom?

That's what I thought, too. But she doesn't like that idea. She says "YOU WERE JUST THERE!" or "WHAT'S THE POINT OF JUST ME AND YOU GOING?" and "I DON'T LIKE RIDES." I totally understand.

I'm perfectly content hanging out at the hotel by the pool, walking around EPCOT leisurely and trying new restaurants. Just to be with my mom. (OK, FINE - and to go back to Rose & Crown to see the cute Irish bartender :lovestruc) But she says she is "too busy" to take a weekend trip anywhere.

I don't know if it's because I'm the least favorite child or what, but I can't convince her to go. I stumbled across this forum in hopes that you adult travelers would have some tips/ideas on what to share with my mom to persuade her to come. What else is there to do when you don't have kids with you?

Any ideas, tips, or suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!

You should start talking with her about her favorite places in Disney and how much she enjoyed those things the last trip, in other words make her dream with the memories:cloud9:. Maybe she would like to try the Grand Marnier orange slushie and/or the Grey Goose Lemonade slushie in Epcot's France Pavillion :thumbsup2. Good Luck!!:goodvibes

I had a hard time getting my adult daughter to go again. I think she agreed to go this year just so I will quite bugging her about it!!!

Some of my favorite things are the shows that the parks have, Festival of the Lion King and Nemo, the Musical are to of the best. Beauty and the Beast at Hollywood Studios is another good one. And I love One Man's Dream, but didn't really 'get it' until I read a book about Walt Disney's life.
Another thing is the dining!!! There are so many wonderful places to eat. Maybe go to California Grill and go out on the walkway to watch Wishes. Or the 50's Prime Time Cafe, it might bring back memories. I could go on and on...
I have made many adult only trips, some we didn't do hardly any rides and we still had a wonderful time. I come home and start planning my next trip.
So, hopefully your mom will be able to enjoy some of these things too. Pam F

Thank you!! This morning I finally got her to say she wants to go on a trip with me - just not to Disney. I'm taking your suggestions so I can point out that Disney can be for adults, too!!

Great suggestions!

What about doing a spa day at the Grand Floridian or one of the others? I went to the Grand Floridian spa and it was very nice, I could have spent the whole day there.

Garden View Tea...my DD and I are going to do that, seems like a nice, relaxing mother-daughter activity. My DD is only 9 but we are taking a mother-daughter trip in May so trying to think of the activities we are doing but would be age appropriate for you and your mom.

Eating and shopping around Epcot is one of the activities we are both excited about...good thing about a girls only trip. Also, are you planning on going during the Flower Festival...would she be interested in that? You could rent a car and check out Celebration.

Have you and your mom taken an adult trip there together already? My mom and I went about 11 years ago to Disneyland just the two of us. We really had a good time, just a good place to forget about everything and have fun. I made her try things like Blue Bayou which we never tried as a kid because it was too expensive for us. She really enjoyed going back and enjoying the park with another adult instead of chasing after her two kids LOL.

My other question is this, is WDW the only option? Is there somewhere your mom would like to go? I know I have limited vacation funds so I tend to be stingy about how I spend that money and only spend it on places I really want to go to.

What about a Disney cruise as a compromise?

Thanks! No, it's not the only option. I just have a PIN code which makes it crazy affordable to do a weekend there as opposed to somewhere else.

PS - What's Blue Bayou?

Sorry I deviated and started talking about Disneyland...it's a restaurant in Disneyland by the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. Really cool atmosphere and great monte cristo sandwich. We never went in when I was a kid...we were strictly a counter service family LOL. Made my mom go when we were adults and she loved it.

I understand about the PIN codes. The deep discounts right now are how I got talked into a 2nd trip this year. :)

Has your mom ever been to Disneyworld? To her rides might mean triple loop roller coasters doing 60mph which i can see why she wouldnt like them. If shes never been get the trip planner so she can get a better idea of rides, talk about shopping around the world in Epcot, fireworks, Off Kilter, all the entertainment. Lots of people think the world is just an expensive version of Great America and are so so wrong. Have fun.

I took my mom a few years ago on the combined park/cruise trip. She loved the cruise and we are still cruising to this day.

In the parks, she didn't always enjoy the rides, but she loved, loved, loved seeing fireworks every night, sometimes twice if we made it to both parks. She loved the dining choices and the shopping. Sometimes, I would ride an attraction and she would go in the shop next door. But her fav moment was sitting on the bench across from Splash Mountain - I swear we sat there for an hour and just chit-chatted, and she loved watching everyone come down the last drop and scream!
