I called and have a room on hold for 8 nights (4/9/04-4/17/04) at the teacher rate. I was so psyched but DH is balking that the Dolphin looks "dorky" and isn't really Disney. I only have till Friday that the room stays on hold. Help!!!!!

I felt the same way about the S/D. I was a WDW snob- I would only stay at Disney resorts yada yada yada... Then - last summer I heard about the teacher rate - awesome rate for a deluxe resort! Off we went to the Dolphin - we were surrounded by Disney and IN Disney. We could walk to Boarwalk, Epcot and MGM. We had access to many fine dining options. The Grotto pool was wonderful. We had the same perks as if staying in a Disney resort. To add to the magic - we received a complimentary upgrade to Club Level! Dolphin = LOCATION plus terrific rate / you can't go wrong!

We joined spg and got the Amex cc at that time. Flash forward to now - 1 year later - off we go again to the Swan this trip b/c of the spg promotion cash and points. We earned enough points this past year to stay for 3 nights at $60 per night and added on nights using the teacher rate. A great deal!

The same thing happened to me last year. I have stayed at several of the Disney resorts and when we wanted to go at Christmas, the teacher rate at the S/D was just so much better, I couldn't pass it up. I also got the Amex cc and accumulated points and joined SPG, hoping for an upgrade. SPG matched my other hotel cards and now I am platinum and so when we went to the Swan at Christmas, we were upgraded to a jr suite on Club Level. It was perfect. The location is fantastic and so was the transportation. Going back in 5 days.......yikes....I better get busy!

Does your DH drink coffee.
My DH coffee addict (he loves Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts).

The best coffee he found is at the Dolphin (well maybe Kona Cafe beat it). Right off the main lobby by the escalator is a coffee bar. They do not do the refillable mugs. But that is where my DH bought his all week. Loved it :)

Also is it just you and DH ? Take a night stroll along the Boardwalk. Rent a bike for two (or more if with your family)
to ride along the Boardwalk. Sit in the back of the boat on the way to EPCOT or MGM. Go down the water slide in the pool - yes adult go down it too - 2 twists inside a dark 'rock'. Play in the water fall in the pool.

You will love the Dolphin.

And if your DH is a bit of a workaholic - mine brought work with him... they have a fully staffed business center - word processing,
computers, fax machines, copiers, FEDEX boxes, shipping services, ....

PS - one more item

2002 was our first ever trip to WDW.
My DH did not want to go.

Well - he fell in love with WDW and the Dolphin.

We scooted over to the CR in 2003 - great rate - could not beat it at the Dolphin.

But for our 20th anniversary in 2005 - Dolphin here we come.
My DH requested it ;)

Hey- it just takes a one night stay and the 'boys' love it.

And now they have heavenly beds and new furniture to boot :)

They do have the refillable mugs at the Dolphin! Starbucks is at Tubbies (Dolphin's foodcourt) and you can drink as much as you want with a refillable mug. Your DH will LOVE the Dolphin! We are going back for a 16 day stay in Dec. We knew we would like it because of the location but we ended up LOVING it. It is a deluxe in every way.

Hi, I was wondering how many feet long the pool slide is and how it compares to the YC"s slide? just curious...

Thanks so much for the replies! DS & DD will be 14 & 13 when we go next easter so I thought the boardwalk area would be good for their age. Now, I just need to get him to OPEN his mind a tad!

Not sure on how long it is, but it's enough to keep the kids entertained!

If this helps.........my DH will ONLY stay at the Dolphin now on our Disney trips!:D

We just returned from a week long vacation at the Dolphin. This was our third Dolphin stay, so, needless to say, we love it!! My teenage son and his friend (who was with us) rated the Dolphin pool #5 out of ALL the Disney attractions (rides included!)!!!!   Tell your DH to give the Dolphin a try - he will love it!:D
