I'm torn between what hotel I will like better...I have a two year old son, pluse my husband and I. I'm leaning towards the Old Keys West, but Saratoga's pool sounds better...just curious what you guys would choose or are choosing if you got this awesome upgrade!

Also, I've notice some people have standard rooms at the values and got this upgrade..I had a preferred, so are there preferred at these hotels...any help would be appreciated!

Thanks fellow disers!

The 1BR at OKW were booked for 8-27 to 9-1, so we are in a 1BR at SSR. It sounds like people love OKW better that SSR, but most of the reviews I read were done during construction at SSR so I think that might've made a difference. Sounds like SSR is really big and spread out, so location of your room might be really important.

I'd go with the 1BR anywhere over a studio for the extra TV, privacy, whirlpool tub, ice-maker fridge, and.... drum roll.... washer/dryer! (but I would've rather been in a 1BR at OKW based on comments here and other places).

I voted for SSR because of the zero-depth pool for your 2-year old. SSR also has a food court while OKW does not.

I didn't vote, because I haven't stayed at SSR. But I will say that I stayed at OKW three times and enjoyed each visit. :)

I think SSR would be cool for the proximity to Downtown Disney.

Is this offer only open to people who got an email. I will be at ASMU during this time frame. Do you need a code to do this???

If it were my decision, I would definitely go with SSR. I've never stayed at either one, but we have visited both resorts to "check them out". I love the newness and the whole theming of SSR. I also love their pool, and the closeness to DTD.
Good luck choosing, I know that picking a resort is one of the hardest decisions in planning a vacation!

thanks for this thread starter:thumbsup2
I was just thinking the same thing. we are booked at OKW in a 1 bd room but I was thinking about SSR instaed and I can't make up my mind:confused3 However, which ever one we pick we are very lucky to have received this upgrade.
Did anyone eles wake up this morning and say OMG I'm staying at OKW!

I chose SSR!! I'm so excited!!! I got a 1br villa w/ a fridge, w/d, and whirlpool tub! I cannot believe Disney has done this for me! DISNEYNY, I believe you do have to have a code to receive this offer...I got mine emailed to me yesterday...I was originally at POP for 8/26-9/1...this is going to be our first time ever to disneyworld as a family....dunno why I received it, but I'm sure thankful I did!

Congrats!!!! I am there 8/26 - 9/3. Maybe the extra days counted me out. Oh well I still have free dining to look forward to. Have a great time!!!

If you are talking about an upgrade to a 1BR at OKW as an upgrade from a value...you have hit the jackpot!! The 1 BR's at OKW are awesome...huge living room, full kitchen, washer dryer, jetted tub, nice balcony with table and chairs. Same amenities at SSR except they are a little smaller, but newer and the balconies are MUCH smaller. Personally we LOVE okw...but if someone offered me a unit at SSR I sure would not be upset!! Either place is awesome. OKW has the new water slide that is huge and lots of fun too.

There is a huge difference between a studio and a 1BR, so if you get offered a 1BR at either place be sure and take it over a studio. The studios are basically hotel rooms with a frig and microwave, no DVD players, no washer/dryers, no jetted tub. The studios at OKW have 2 queen size beds and the ones at SSR have 1 queen bed and a nice sleeper sofa.

FYI: for those not familar with OKW and SSR, just to make sure you know and are prepared, the one bedrooms will have one king bed and a queen sofa sleeper.

The studios at SSR will have one queen and one full size sofa bed.
The studios at OKW will have two queen beds.

The one bedrooms at OKW are huge with a full kitchen, large living area and dining room.

Enjoy your stay

Just so there is no confusion, SSR does not have a food court, it has a counter service similiar to what is offered at other deluxe resorts. It will not be similar to the food courts at the values or moderates.

OKW also has counter service, it is just that the seating is outside on tables. It does not have an inside seating area.

I decided to call Disney and see if maybe I could get the upgrade. Sure enough I never received the email, but I was eligible. By the time I called all the 1 bedrooms were gone, so we are booked in a Studio. My family is so excited. I'm glad I saw your post or I wouldn't have known about it....Thanks!!!!

While the counter service is not as large at SSR as it is at POP, I would still consider it a "food court" with more limited offerings. Yes, it's more like Captain Cook's or the Food and Fun Center than Everything Pop. But it offers all kinds of foods. The counter service at OKW is very limited to mostly burgers. The bar at OKW, however, is nicer IMO .

You can see some of the high Epcot fireworks (and perhaps the MK's too) from parts of OKW and you can see the midnight DTD fireworks from parts of SSR. But, it's not close like when staying at BWV, BCV or VWL. You can't request a "fireworks" view, so I don't think it should be a deal breaker.

They don't do the fireworks at Downtown Disney nightly anymore. As stated the views of the fireworks are not worth trying to get a location.

I would not be very concerned about locations at either SSR/OKW. For one all the views are similiar of either waterways, landscaped areas or golf fairways.

Also DVC members will be placed first and even then most of the time DVC members get what is available at check in.

I would simply suggest when you check in ask what is available and make a choice then.
