Help me choose a third "country" to eat dinner!

Count me as one of the people who think Le Cellier is "over-hyped" here.

My explanation is:
  • It is very good quality food for a theme park restaurant. Not great for the same price at an off-property restaurant, but very good for a theme park.
  • Very "safe" for "picky eaters"
  • Only 1 credit on the DDP. I suspect many people on the DDP seem to choose it because the menu prices are high compared to other 1 credit DDP restaurants. They feel like they're "maximizing the value" of the DDP. Not a good enough reason for me.
I hope you enjoy whatever you end up choosing.

But, we also love Mexican food. And we are from NYC, so it's not like we are used to the best Mexican food in the country :rotfl:. If we were from Texas or California for example, we would probably not go near San Angel or the Cantina!!

I'm from Arizona, which has a large Mexican population, and a lot of the "Mexican" restaurants we have are what might be referred to a "Tex-Mex". Nachos, burritos, enchaladas - that kind of stuff.

You can get that at Cantina, but San Angel doesn't serve that kind of food. If you haven't already, check out the menus on the DIS or allears.net.

We really enjoyed lunch at Marrakesh; I'd love to go again but it's a question of so many places, so little time! (Terrible problem to have, eh? ;) ) The food was interesting, but a little...um, "mainstreamized" is the only phrase I can come up with. It was definitely tasty and good quality, but we get terrific middle Eastern food locally. The atmosphere and entertainment were great. My ds enjoyed learning about the instruments they used and chatting with the CMs, who were the warmest we encountered. I loved the fresh mint tea, so relaxing in the cool airy setting.

We also enjoyed lunch at Rose and Crown; I remember an interesting cheese plate perhaps? We went back sans kids to the pub for beer and bar food, including fish and chips, which we enjoyed. Also enjoyed chatting with the CMs there.

Akershus, I wouldn't bother to go back unless it was for the princesses. The princesses were great, I must say, and the photo package makes it a great deal. I found the food uninteresting, and OMG it was like pulling teeth to get the CMs to talk about their home and culture that day, even to get them enthusiastic about the food.

We also enjoyed Biergarten, which is already firmly on your list, I believe.

This time we are going to Garden Grill for the first time. The reviews I've read are fair to good; we like the idea of the "homey" family style, the rotating restaurant, and dd loves Chip and Dale (truth be told, so do I :D ). I figure if the food is mediocre, at least we get lots of rodents with the meal.

Good luck finding something you love.

I looked at the menus. San Angel Inn looks great! The entrees look so interesting, definitely right up our alley.

The only thing at Rose and Crown that really appeals to me is the fish and chips, and I could get that at the CS in the UK area for lunch one day. I think the only thing DH would eat here is a steak, and he could get that at one of the resort restaurants we will be eating dinner (Captain's Grille, The Wave).

If the food is not the biggest draw of Akershus then I am crossing it off our list. My sister is planning to go there for a very late lunch anyway, around 2PM, which is the time we like to take the kids back to the resort for an afternoon break. We'll be at BWV so it will be a nice walk or boat ride back to the WS at Epcot for dinner, which we like.

Marrakesh looks great too, so we may end up there.

I am still going to ask DH whether he would rather do San Angel, Marrakesh or Le Cellier. I will also ask him about Garden Grill but he will most likely like to try another country in the WS instead. I think at this point I am leaning more toward San Angel Inn because of recommendations here, and my friend's recommendation about the food. Even though it is less important to us than the food, the atmosphere there looks beautiful from the photos I have seen.
