we have an ADR for spoodles and were planning to go to epcot afterwards for illuminations. i'm having second thoughts on spoodles after seeing quite a few bad reviews. so i need help deciding on another restaurant in the epcot resort area or at epcot. i would appreciate any recommendations and thoughts on this!

just some background info:

~we've already eaten at le cellier and while we liked it, we don't want to repeat it (at least not on this trip).

~i'm going to go ahead and say "no" to akershus, marrakesh, garden grill (we're already doing a character meal and one is enough for us b/c we don't have kids) and san angel because i know DH wouldn't like them.

~i'm not sure about the cape may clam bake because neither of us are clam-eaters. we like seafood....me moreso than DH. but i'm thinking if you don't like clams there's really no point.

~we're not on the DDP, but will have a DDE card.

thanks in advance! :goodvibes

Adult and quiet great food$$$$ Yachtsman Steakhouse
Loud and fun Good food $$ Germanys buffet
Spoodles is really yummy..not basic plain food though but very good!
France has all great reviews on there food but I have never been..

Too bad!! We LOVED Spoodles...we being DH, DS (11) & DS (9) as well as myself!! We all thought the food was delicious!

However, if you are sure you want out of that ADR, in Epcot we enjoyed Le Cellier & Chefs de France. Our next trip we are trying Coral Reef & the new Japanese place.

Be really careful regarding recommendations because so much of it is on personal choice...also on the look of the restaurant & the waiter/ess. Our waitress at Spoodles was the friendliest one for the entire twelve day trip! We loved the look of the restaurant & enjoy Meditterean (sp???) food. We certainly would not hesitate to eat there again.

Only Le Cellier is a must-do for us at EPCOT, but that won't be of much help to you!

This trip, we are trying Teppan Edo in Japan for the first time. They cook at your table - maybe your family would enjoy that? So far, it is getting very good reviews (it is new).

Coral Reef! It's got a great atmosphere, and the food is wonderful. I am not a seafood eater by any means (neither is DH), but we both love the place. He always gets the NY Strip, which is very good for a seafood restaurant. I get the lobster bisque (amazing!) and the shrimp pasta (hold the shrimp), which I love. They have some really good wine here, too, and will let you know pairs best with what you order.

Hi Dawn!! :goodvibes

On the Boardwalk I would suggest Flying Fish - they have great seafood and I'd put them miles above the Cape May seafood buffet over at the Beach Club.

Yachtsman Steakhouse is supposed to be very good but I can't personally vouch for it.

If you want something fancy and intimate try Bistro Paris in Epcot - it's pricey but so worth it. They offered a standard menu as well as a 5-course degustation menu when we ate there in October and all of the food was incredible.

We enjoyed the Big River Brew Works. Great beer, good burgers and pub grub in a laid back atmosphere......:thumbsup2

when was the last time you were there? i was thinking this would be a great place but the reviews i have read are from people who used to love it but say it has gone downhill. i'm worried that when i decided to make the ADR i was looking at reviews that were kinda old and now i'm seeing more recent ones that aren't so good.

Hi Dawn!! :goodvibes

hi, brenda! :wave2: i'm strongly considering chefs de france. ray would say no but since he's not helping me plan than that's just too bad! :snooty: plus by looking at the menu i see plenty there that he'd love. have you eaten there? another plus is that we could go get some squishee's right outside the restaurant when we're done and drink those while watching illuminations! :cloud9:

We've eaten lunch at Chef's de France and dinner at Bistro Paris (Bistro is upstairs from Chefs and is only open for dinner). I think the lunch menu is a better deal at Chef's comapred with their dinner menu, but if you have the DDE that will make it better.

Ahhh, the squishees ... would you believe that I didn't get a squishee on our last trip? Wah wah wah!!! ;)

Flying Fish or Coral Reef are my top two, both great, especially since you like seafood. If you go to FF the potato wrapped snapper is a must! I'd skip the Yachtsman, if you want a good steak I'd suggest Shula's. I liked Il Mulino also if you're looking for italian.

We were there the first week of October just passed! LOVED IT!! On our list of repeat restaurants for next August.

Chefs de France...not so much. Perhaps it was partly the fault of the server as he had pretty much no personality that I could see...not rude per say, just not friendly, at all. Ambiance was ok but the tables are soooo squished together that it's hard to enjoy your meal with everyone so close by (though, admittedly, Le Cellier was a little this way as well).

Food wise, from what we ate, the calamari was great as was the scallops & shrimp with spinach. The cheese puff pastry was sort of gross & the pate was not very good. Overall, it was ok, just not worth repeating for us.

would you mind telling me what you had?

since we're buying the DDE card, i budgeted for our meals to see how much i'd need in total. spoodles was estimated at around $60. we were gonna order a couple of appetizers and an entree and split it all, plus some alcohol. anyway, i don't think i can do chefs de france on $60 and be happy with what i get. and i'm just not impressed with coral reef's menu. so i'm rethinking spoodles. i've changed my mind now like 50 times!!!! :headache:

I would recommend Teppan Edo. We just got back on Wed. this week. We were there from 12/23 thru 1/2. Teppan Edo was one of our favorites places we ate. We also really enjoyed the food at Le Cellier (which was our second fav place to eat - but you said you didn't want to eat there.

The Yachtsman has great food -freshly prepared daily and hand cut steaks, great atmosphere. I go there for all of my special occasions, the managers and chefs are great! The food has always been top notch.

Have a great time where ever you decide!!
