Help me choose a good resaurant (not character) for picky eaters...

Hi,

Here's the deal...we've been to WDW 4 times. My DDs are 3 1/2 and 7. My DH and 3 year old are very picky eaters. My DH likes Chicken Parm and steak...a meat and potato kind of guy... Nothing strange or new!

We usually eat at character meals for our DDs and have never experienced some of the restaurants mentioned here like 50's Prime, Sci-Fi, Mama's, Le Cellie, Boma, Ohana etc...

We've only eaten at MK character meals, MGM at H&V, Garden Grill, Chef Mickey's, 1900 Park Fare, and Concourse Steakhouse for breakfast.

Could you help me pick a restaurant that is not a character meal for picky eaters...we're staying at BWV this year if that helps.

I was thinking 50's Prime Time or Sci-Fi or Mama Melrose????

Help! We invited my BIL and his family (2 boys ages 7 and 10) and our niece, 14, this year and I would like some place they'd all be excited about atmosphere and food-wise.

What do ya think???

50's PT has wonderful fried chicken/mashed potatoes and pot roast/mashed potatoes. My 12yo DS is meat and potato kind of guy and he was in heaven here! He also rated their vanilla malt as the world's best. We will definitly do this again.

We were a little disappointed with 'Ohana. The steak was kind of tough and not very flavorful. The turkey was better. The shrimp was great, but maybe too spicy for little ones. Also, they are the shell-on variety, so that slowed us down considerably!

LeCellier is our absolute fav. 50'sPTC is also alot of fun with good food.

I think 50's Prime Time would be a good choice- lots of home style choices. We also liked Cape May Cafe- it's called a "clam bake" but in addition to the clams/mussels/fish, they had prime rib, pork ribs, roasted chicken, potatoes, rice, salads, veggies, melon, plus a kids "station" with mac and cheese, chicken strips, mini hot dogs and a breaded fish- I think I read they have popcorn shrimp now instead of the fish nuggets. It was really good, something for everyone, and the desserts were fab as well.

I would rule out Sci-Fi unless you are planning on ordering burgers and shakes. Their other entrees get lots of negative reviews. I think you'll find something for everyone at 50's Prime Time as they serve lots of "home cooked" types of food. Make sure that everyone in your party would enjoy the "hi-jinks" of the waitstaff and that they know what to expect in advance and that you want a lively atmosphere. Mama Melrose's is good but some of the picky eaters in my family weren't impressed with their options. We enjoy Le Cellier and their steaks. They have chicken, fish, etc. also. It is more laid back and calm than 50's Prime Time so it depends on what mood you're looking for. We really liked Ohana but there would be no potatoes for your meat and potato lover and I think there wouldn't be much other than the meat options that your picky eaters would like. I'd suggest checking out the menus here online to see what you think will appeal to everyone. I'm sure you'll enjoy whatever you choose. Have fun planning!

You may try the ESPN Club as well since it is right at the Boardwalk. Has a little something for everyone. Sports for the men, arcade for boys, less supervising for the moms.....the booths in the bar area have their own tvs and hookups for playstation....it's normally pretty lively in there. Just checked the menu at wdwig.com and it looks like they even serve a ribeye.....Just another restaurant to think about. We usually hang out there several nights during our stay.

DH suggests 50's Primetime and Yachtsman Steakhouse at the Yacht Club.

I had the same problem during my October trip b/c the girls are picky. I'll also have the problem when I take my Dad. The girls liked Prime Time Cafe pretty good, but we Kentuckians like our green beans cooked soft not crunchy. We hid them in our napkins and DD carried them out in her purse then threw them away so we wouldn't get in trouble for not eating them. A couple places that we ate this time your group might like is Le Cellier, Cape May Cafe, (prime rib, etc. as well as the seafood) and California Grill. I had thought that CG was too upscale/gourmet for my group but now that I've been, I think Dad would enjoy thier the filet or pork tenderloin. Plus, DGD8 ordered the pizza off the childrens menu and loved it. I've thought about taking Dad to that restaurant in Fort Wilderness too, can't remember the name of it.

You might also try the Biergarten. The food there is hardy and delish. They had lots of things I bet your DH would love. There were these hamburger pattie like things in brown gravy, big sausage, potatoes, chicken. The food wasn't at all strange to us. DGD said she loved the food there and she's strickly a chicken fingers/pizza/hamburger kinda girl. Give it a try.

jennymouse, tjhat is too funny, bean in the purse out the door. The ribbing wouldn't be that bad, they might have just made all of you stand in the corner. HA HA HA. I just keep laughing about carrying it out like that. I would have thought it pretty funny if I saw you guys doing that. You lucky some of you neighbors didn't tell on you to get you in trouble. That place is pretty nice if you get a server who is really into it and you egg them on.

I am from SC and the first time I ever had green beans that weren't "cooked to death" was at PT. That is now my favorite way to have them (I still like them with potatoes, bacon, and pot liquor, but I get them that way enough when I visit Mom and Dad.)

Yep, I have a picky eater too (dd).

She loves 50's Primetime chicken and milkshakes. Also the Plaza Paviliion in the MK has some nice subs, excellent chix soup, and yummy milkshakes. The Plaza is a cute little place.
