First trip for Disney with our 10 year old daughter (Though I have never been either). We can get a good deal at either OKW or SSR. We want easy transportation to MK and Downtown Disney. Our daughter will love a water slide. We like to be comfortable and have a nice view and balcony. We are trying to avoid renting a car but may rethink this.

Whats your recommendation as to which is abetter choice for us and why?

We have stayed at both and I feel you will not be disapointed either way. Our children are 12, 11, 9 and 7 . We like the larger rooms (we get a two bedroom) at OKW. My children like the SSR pool better but also enjoy OKW. SSR are newer and very nice. As far as renting a car , both have excellent transportation and we never have waited long at either resort, also we order our groceries from wegoshop.com and they bring them right to you at your room for a very small fee. ( a lot less then renting a car) I hope this helps!! I guess what I'm trying to convey is both have many positive things to offer. Good luck and have a great trip!! :thumbsup2

My DH just added another good point if someone is sleeping on the pull-out couch SSR is VERY NICE and comfortable!! Not the rack at Grandma's house that we used to stay on!!:lmao:

If transportation is your biggest concern, I'd say go with SSR. Many sections are an easy walk to DTD. Both SSR and OKW offer a boat to DTD, too, but the ride is shorter from SSR. I can't comment on bus service between SSR/OKW and MK because we always rent a car when we go.

As for your daughter's wish for a pool slide, my kids love the slides at both SSR and OKW, but overall they like the pool at SSR better. I have a preference for SSR over OKW in terms of pool access because for us walking to the main pool at SSR has always been easy. We have several times ended up in units at OKW that have not had as easy access to the main pool because of the way the resort is laid out along the canal.

Either way, really, you can't go wrong. We've loved every DVC resort we've ever stayed at. Here's hoping your vacation is magical! :wizard:

I agree with the others - I think you'll enjoy either stay.

I've stayed at SSR and visited OKW. My impression is that SSR has a better main pool, but OKW has a better hospitality house. (More compact, open, airy, closer to pool). That said, I love Artist's Pallette and Turf Club at SSR, it's just further away from the main pool.

If you go for a studio, everyone gets a bed, and the studio is larger at SSR. If you for a 1 BR, child gets the sofa bed - but it's still larger. However, SSR has a high level of elegance - but both are nice. Others can say if the Sofa bed is better at SSR than OKW.

As for transportation - I think SSR is more manageable because it's built as a circuit for the most part. OKW has one road the keep meandering back and back and back. While Disney transportation is good and efficient, based on reports at OKW, it would feel longer to me.

At SSR, it's easy to jsut get off at the main stop, hit Artist's Pallette for a snack or beverage, and walk back to your villa. Depending on location at OKW, that would be harder to do there.

All that said, we have borrowed too many points, so we need to stay at OKW in 2008 to balance things out and are really looking forward to it. Hope this helps.

if you're staying in a studio - your DD gets a real bed at OKW and a pullout sofabed at SSR. it's a nice pullout sofabed...i slept in one for several nights...but i'd still give the edge to the real bed.

SSR is a bit closer to DTD (especially if you stay on the congress park side.) very easy to use the DTD transportation to other resorts (or as an option to return to SSR) when you are a 10 minute walk or less from the DTD bus stop.

i'd also give SSR a slight edge for their pool.

there's not a wrong choice, though...

I like both resorts...and think that you can't lose with either one. As far as pools, the main pool at OKW is great with the sandcastle slide. But, SSR has a great slide too. The rooms at OKW are bigger...but the room thing depends on how much time you plan to spend in the room.

We always drive to WDW but take the buses once we are there. It makes it alot less stressful when you don't have to find a parking space or remember where you parked your car. We always go in a group so the buses make it where everyone can look around and visit as opposed to one person having to be the "driver". :cool1:

I know that you will have a great time no matter where you stay! :dance3:
