Any neat savings ideas/tips that anyone can give out to help me save for our 2010 trip to the world?

I am thinking....if we go during free dining (HOPEFULLY) the cost for the 3 of us @ a value w/ 6 day hoppers will be $1400 (according to this year's prices, I am sure it may be more next year). Airfair not included. If I could save @ least $1000 then fiance will pay the other 1/2 which will be the airfare portion and the other $400.

Any ideas? I would like to save up more than $1000
I figure if I save $20 every week for a year (20*52=1040) then I should be good...
Although we have over a year for our trip but the payment would be due earlier obviously. Am I crazy for coming up with this idea?

any other ideas?

This sounds doable to me - if you can stick to it! We have been saving $100 a month for 5 years since our tins were born - specifically for our 3 DS's 1st Disney trip. You will have to pay off 45 days in advance, but if you start saving now you could make up those xtra weeks.

Also, not sure how much cash you use, but start saving your coins. We switched to an all cash basis as of January and have over $250 in coins in our piggy bank. As of March, any $5 bills that I received went into the pig as well. We have a nice little stash bult up, and our trip is still 6 months away. This will be our souviner money! :thumbsup2

Good luck! Remember, once you book your pacakge, you have to put down the $200 deposit, then you can make payments as often as you need to. We have the cash saved up for our trip sitting in our savings account, but I have been paying small amounts into our trip with extra money that we have - leftover from bill payments, garage sale money, etc.

1) Save coins. They add up quickly.
2) Cut down eating out once a month and put that money in the coin jar.
3) Haircuts - delay it by 1 week each month. You will save one haircut after 5 months.
4) A service you would normally pay for (such as a car wash) just do yourself and pay yourself what it would have cost you.

I have been using my Disney Visa for everything since January. :thumbsup2
And, we aren't going until June 2010.
I have been putting about 2200. each month, and then pay it off each month.
So, that gives me about 396.00 for one of our parkhoppers.
Plus, any big purchases I put on the Visa.
And, usually during the holidays I get 5X the rewards !!!
We also have a Disney Bottle, for any extra change. And, I throw a few dollars in every few days, also ! ;)
All my bonus' or incentives I get at work, goes into my vacation savings.
And, we changed our federal/state deductions to get more money back
next year !!!
So, good luck to us all during the next year !!
