Help me bake a potato...

Agreed that oven baked is superior to microwave. I like to rinse the spud, poke holes, and wrap in foil. Then about 60-90 minutes in the oven.:earsboy:

I prefer mine baked in the oven but also make them in the microwave as shown above when pressed for time. A good friend said to try putting them in a ziploc bag, bag opened of course so it doesn't blow up. It works and the skin comes out soft and steamed.

My Grandma taught me to rinse the potato well and then rub it with Crisco and place in the oven for approx. 1 hr in 350 degree heat.

She has never poked holes in hers and nor have I and they have always turned out fantastic. You must poke holes for the micro to prevent a potato explosion:eek: .

I have also taken my potato and with a sharp knife made large slits into the potato and then put butter in the slits and then around the potato put sliced onions, mushrooms & carrots - wrapped it in foil and cooked it again for about an hour. This I generally do on the grill when cooking steaks in the summer time.

Good luck!!!!:)

The best I recall, was when we were kids, a looooooong time ago.

We would go to the prairie where the neighbors had gardens, dig up potatos, make a fire in a hole in the ground with wood sticks and scraps, toss the taters in for some amount of time, stick them with a stick and eat them, burnt skin and all, off the stick. Now THAT was eatin'!!!!!
