Hi! :wave2:

So, here's the deal- I'm a junior in high school and finally decided today that I would really love to create a Make-a-Wish club at my school. For those of you who aren't aware of what it is, it's an organization that, through donations and events, raises money to grant a wish for a child who is terminally ill. One of the most well-known is sending a child to Disney World (leading me to the boards), but wishes can include swimming with dolphins, playing in a philharmonic... anything. I have always been really passionate about Disney (and sometimes get flak from my friends because of it :p ) and joined the boards when I was 11 because of this. Thus, the foundation has always been of interest to me, but I've finally decided to get proactive about it... or at least I hope to. I need to propose the club idea to my school, but I think that there is a good chance it would be approved.

Anyway, I'm wondering what your ideas would be concerning how I could raise money to donate to the organization (if creating the club works out). Can you think of any specific events/fundraisers that have worked well in your hometown or any way maybe the DIS would get involved? I'm basically just brainstorming ideas in my head and thought that these boards would be a great place to get started through extra input!

Thanks for any ideas you have to offer (as obvious as you may think they seem, I would appreciate anything!)

I just wanted to say that your parents must be very, very proud of you!!!!! That's a wonderful cause to get involved with and I wish you the best of luck :goodvibes

Duh... forgot my suggestions:

1) car wash
2) bake sale
3) school dance
4) auction

A rock-a-thon with rocking chairs--or a dance-a-thon...something that incorporates the whole school. Your club would plan it--but then you would have an easy and understanding reason of why you are soliciting the help of the entire school ;).

ETA: I do the LLS Team in Training b/c of a boy I used to babysit for. He did die from his illness--and his Make a Wish to Disney was just in time as he did get sick on his trip (I think he had completed most of it) and had to return home to the hospital. He never left and had died just before Christmas. It is AWESOME what you are doing. Our honorary coach did MAW also--his choice was a little closer to home--a bulldog puppy for a companion. Very sweet (yet big dog). What you are planning on doing is wonderful and kind and just :wizard: .

That is a great idea! The ideas kdibattista were really good. You could also do a battle of the bands. A club at my school held one over break. I didn't go, but if you want, you can PM me and I can get you information about how to organize it. My friends boyfriend is the president of the club, so I could talk to him for you. From what I hear, though, it was a fairly good success. They had 6+ bands there from several area schools.

What a great and caring person you are, mariamouse!!!

Fundraisers: try to stick to original things...like the "a-thons" and the battle of the bands. We did a spaghetti supper and auction for band. Um, for cheerleading we did car washes (ugh)! We even thought about but never attempted a topless car wash (and for all the people out there about to flame it's when you wash the bottom of the car for free...like right before the windows or something...and they have to pay a certain amount for having the windows/windshield etc. [TOP of the car] washed). We did a bake sale and food sales. We were thinking about doing a Flamingo Invasion and having insurance for that. Let me know if you want more details.
