I have a 35mm Samsung ECX that takes film and I love it. Thought I would try a digital camera back about 5 years ago purchased a Olympus Stylus, I hate it

So now we have an up coming trip in May for SWW and In July we are doing an Alaskan Cruise and I'm looking for a new digital camera.

I'm thinking of purchasing a Camon eos rebel T3i.

Would like reviews if anyone has this camera or if you have a camera that you love would love to hear about it.

The Canon T3i is their latest rendition of their Rebel series of DSLR's. All the manufacturers, Nikon, Canon, Pentax, Sony (old Minolta), Olympus, etc, all make great cameras today. Each of the brands have their strong and weak points. Then you get into the Full Frame vs APS-C (which the T3i is) vs 4/3 systems. And then you throw in the new mirrorless cameras and it all can get confusing. My recommendation is first to review all the latest models at a website like www.DPreview.com. After narrowing it down to something reasonable, I would then try to find and handle as many of the cameras as I could. We all have our reasons for choosing a brand that is totally subjective to the individual. The ergonomics are very important, are the buttons in the right place for you, weight?, etc. After you narrow it down to the one, then you will have to decide which lens best fits what you are going to shoot. Purchasing a DSLR system can be a major investment and unless you have unlimited funds, it would be nice to keep the costly mistakes to a minimum.

Each of us here has a reason we are using the system that we are. If you were going to be a professional photographer then it would be very easy to make a brand recommendation. That would be a Nikon or Canon full frame camera. Since most of us do not strive to that level, then there are many options that produce excellent images. Good luck and keep asking questions.

IMO...

The T2i or 60D would be a greater value if purchased today. The T3i was just released and its price is not expected to drop for a few months.

So what you have is 3 cameras with the same sensor all within like $200 of each other.

T2i $649
T3i $799
60D $899(was $849 before current rebates which require MSRP, should drop again after they end March 19th).
