HELP! Looking for reasonable airfare!

I'm also awaiting SW's release of schedule for late August. We have a trip planned and have most details set except this one.

I have seen Delta's fares from bdl reduce soon after SW's release of schedule. I'll be checking this week!

Hav eyou really seen delta do this after Sw releases?? I am hoping I have soooo many miles with delta...

ah their prices etc...delta is in a major fin. situtaion right now.
Well, that wouldn't indicate that they don't "care" but rather that they cannot practically offer anything else at this time.

Really I am wondering how much cheaper SW is going to end up being???

It is a problem for CT vacationers that the prices are so high for Delta. If you choose to fly out of another airport, you lose so much of your precious vacation time just to get a reasonable rate.

Living 45 minutes from the airport in northwest CT is just too convenient!

I am hoping for lower Delta rates. I prefer not to use SW. Will be calling TA tomorrow for her input!

I need to check out late oct. the 22nd and the return home would be nov the 4th...I have never used sW and was wondering what do you think should I book the one way first to get the best rate and then book a one way return since it is in Nov??? could you help me so i can get teh best rate...?? thanks sooooo much......

If you do fly Southwest I would definately try for one way tickets. The advantage of one way tickets is if a DING comes out you can change the one way portion of the flight the ding is for, if it isn't avaliable there and back.

We actually have one way tickets booked for Orlando right now for August 3rd, since I just changed our dates I am now anxiously waiting for the new dates to come out so that I can change the tickets to our new arrival date.

As for booking, most people suggest either booking over 6 months out or less then 2 months from the vacation, prices tend to be a bit cheaper at both of the ends rather then in the middle. Though with Southwest since you can change your flight and get the credit saved for a year (for any other flight) if it is less I tend to believe in booking as soon as I can for a reasonable price and just changing my tickets if something cheaper comes out since there is no fee to change your flight.

Prices for November and December have dropped since this morning! (Sunday, April 2nd)

Not fabulous BUT the $1000 fares have disappeared and others have come WAY, WAY down.

Check your dates! :goodvibes

I just priced our February trip. I was very selective about what I'd accept: Outbound departure before 9am. Return departure after 5pm. No alternative airports. The non-stop came to $355 per person which is a little higher than we were hoping. Just switching to a connection through Miami (still arriving in Orlando before 1pm and still leaving Orlando after 6pm) brought the price down to an incredibly cheap $218 per person. I'm tempted to book it, but I'm going to hold out for JetBlue...

I understand!!

our prices went up 100 dollars total for our trip TWICE in two weeks and even that was 200 over what we paid LAST year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! For AA for 5...although we flew in Sept...that must be cheaper than August huh?

I hate airfare for 5 people...it is almost as much as the WDW PACKAGE iteslf
I wish we lived no more than 14 hours drive to WDW then we'd do it in one day but 23 hrs is toooo much...we must fly....esp since we are coming home the day before school starts (for me not my kids!) ICK

Advice, anyone? I'm looking for a reasonable fare now, too - I booked the free dining package starting 9/28 - now, do I book for $250 from Charlotte, NC now, or take a chance and see what Southwest does, and when? :hourglass Then, flying SW involves a 2-1/2 to 3 hour drive to Raleigh so the difference has to be substantial. We're driving down in July, the other half will be there from 4/10 for at least a couple weeks for work, and he'd like me to come down for Easter - that will certainly be driving (if I go) since it's a little late to get decent flight times or fares for the holiday weekend.

It's been rumored that Southwest is, or was, investigating Charlotte as a possibility - :teleport: I so hope they do come here!

Happy travels, everyone! :moped:

Elfstar,

Up here in CT, we'd be ecstatic with a $250 fare!!! :goodvibes

As for driving 2 1/2 - 3 hours to get to the airport, consider the extra time it would take, you know, the pros and cons. Is it worth it? I don't know what the actual $$$ savings it would be.

For us, that would mean driving to NYC or Boston. Definitely NOT worth that whole aggravation!

I hear you !!!

I hear you, too, Pennyplanner, I'm originally from New York, 40 minutes north of Manhattan for 28 years, then in Ithaca for 15 years - spoiled by the proximity of all the airports in the two areas.

The drive to Raleigh's not bad, just time consuming, so it's not a complaint, just so busy at work I hate to leave any sooner than I have to. I'd walk if I had to to get to Disney! :teeth:

CT fliers here, too. With 2 young children, we fly out of Bradley direct non-stop to WDW -- so that means only Delta or Southwest. I've often flown out of T.F. Green (Providence, RI) or Logan (Boston) for work, but no thanks when I'm vacationing with the family.

Hang in there folks, and, I know it's hard, but try not to jump in too fast on what you think is a good fare. I know it's hard. We were happy to lock in Southwest for about $950 for the 4 of us, taxes and fees included, then Southwest dropped down to $59 each way. So now we have a $300+ 12-month credit (we rebooked the exact same flights and times, but no such luck getting credit back on the credit card). Same thing happened last year with a smaller credit and we wound up wasting it/expired.

Here's sending you solid nerves and pixie dust. :wizard:

What do you eman tha SW gives you a credit if the fare drops...

then Southwest dropped down to $59 each way. [/QUOTE]

Do you remember how long before the scheduled flight that the price dropped so low? I can't imagine waiting too long, as I'd be so paranoid about not being able to find anything so close to departure.

I am a little nervous that the longer we wait the harder it is going to be to get a flight..what are your thoughts????
