Help Lice!!! We leave for Disney tomorrow!!

Because knowing or not knowing will not change my life or anyone elses and most importantly, IT IS NONE OF MY BUSINESS. :)

Knowing or not knowing is not going to change ANYONES life :confused3 - especially mine. :thumbsup2

I wonder if you'll still feel the same if you returned home with those inconveniences. It wouldn’t change your life forever but it can temporarily. I’ve read they are itchy little buggers.

Although I've always had a clean room and great mousekeeping service, I have had things broken or not working.

One visit at the Contemporary Tower. The safe key wouldn't come out and the alarm clock was broken. :( So disappointing.

At POR, our safe was broken and our blinds were broken. Those two things were easily fixed that night. :thumbsup2 But there was 1/8" of dust all over everything, musty, old smell in the room, something black was "slung" on the walls, the pillowcases AND pillows were dirty (at first I thought the cases could just be changed but (ick) no.:sad2: ) Outside the room there was trash in off the walkway (those walkways are up higher than ground level). It was just so "not Disney-like". Anyway, when maintence came to take care of the safe, she was like :sad2: and  all on her own. She said it looked like that room had not been inspected. Then she asked if we wanted to move and I told her we had tried to get on the other part and there were no rooms available. Well, somehow, she moved us. Now THAT was very Disney-like.:cheer2:

Honestly, most every Disney room I have been in has had cleanliness issues like the OP said. :guilty: I'm sure most people would notice it also but I know I do because my parents used to own a motel and I've done my fair share of room cleaning. Honestly, I think they are not trained well enough to do a thorough job. I suppose you could do a quick job every once in a while but when you do so day after day, it starts showing quickly.

Sorry, I have veered OT here.

The OP invited us in her world when she posted her business on a Disney discussion board. A discussion board made for people who love Disney. Why don't you want to know?

She came here that night asking for help. She was given some information and that was it.

Why she is continuing to be harrassed with questions and anwers is unbelievable. She's been alot nicer then I would have been if I came home to pages of hurtful responses.

To the OP I've said it here before, I'm sorry you had to come home and see this thread.

Harass is a really strong word and way off.
You managed to bold two parts of my post but neglected to even read the part where I said: ("harass" is really too strong of a word, but I can't come up with a better one right now). I was looking for another word to describe your posts and I admitted in my post that "harass" was wrong word and far too strong. Of course, if you acknowledged that then you couldn't go on and on about it!

As for the OP not coming back to the thread, perhaps your ASSUMING the worst of her very vocally has something to do with it. Hmmm ....

Who is harassing the OP? Asking one question is not harassment. That's all I've asked. My comments today, have been toward other posters who didn't like my one question to the OP. Well really two questions. Did you tell housekeeping, and what hotel did she stay in. That was the extent of my questions. How is that harassment? Now, I know that harassment can be defined as an annoyance. And one could argue that my questions annoy the OP (hence could be harassment), but that’s for the OP to say – and no one else. But last I checked, she wasn’t answering post. So at this point, you are harassing me! :rotfl:

I had to edit this, seriously you are not harassing (or annoying) me at all. I am just joking. I'd like to keep this light. As I'm sure you know, we are on a message board. Laughing is good for the soul.......

I too have had plenty of problems: mold in the bathroom, minor broken items (light bulbs, etc), poor vacuuming, hair in the bathroom, etc. The worst was at BWV in a studio. There was dried diarrhea on the side of the toilet and on the floor. I am usually not a germ-o-phobe, but that gave me the willies! I did not want to get sick on vacation with some gastrointestinal thing from a previous guest! I called down to housekeeping right away and was told that it would be cleaned while we were away at dinner and at the park. We came back very late that night (past midnight) and it was still there! I called down the next morning and I was assured that it would be taken care of while we were away that day. Yup ... it was still there when we came home in the late afternoon. I walked down to the front desk and insisted that I speak to the hotel manager. I ended up talking to the housekeeping manager too and she cleaned it personally. Luckily, we did not get sick!

The assumption hasn't set yet, they were just comments and analogies based off of other posters NOT the OP. The OP has not been given lots of time to respond. In her defense, she hasn't returned to the board (that I know of) since I posted. All the comments I made were nothing more than comments and also, I stated I am humble enough to apologize for - VERY VOCALLY!!! Hmmmmm to that.

The thought of checking into a room where the last person had lice completely squicks me. Lice eggs in the carpet, ew.

I would really hate to see the OP, who has been around here for 3 1/2 years and nearly 2000 posts, leave the DIS because of the paranoia and vitriol against her shown on this thread. She came to us, her DIS friends, for advise on one of the most embarrassing and frustrating things that can happen to a parent: head lice. I wouldn't blame her if she laid low for a while so she isn't known as "The inconsiderate witch who took her kid to WDW with lice".

I am curious. How many of us would really cancel their trip? How many would cut off their DD's long hair right away? Look deep down and be honest. It's just fine to advise other people to cancel a trip the next day or to buzz cut their DD's hair but I really do wonder how many of us would so that ourselves. I will admit that I would not. And ... I am in WEEK SIX of a lice battle with my very own 7-year old DD.

I think that we need to cut the OP some slack. She did what she could with the time she had. We will almost certainly not find out what she did to help combat the lice on her trip as she will be crucified if she ever steps foot back in this thread. I assume that she continued to do the best she could to control the lice and not spread them. I am positive that her heart was in the right place and that she did all she could humanly do. I certainly hope that they had a good time, regardless of the lice. :grouphug:

My biggest piece of advise for lice combing is this: wash and towel dry the hair and then add conditioner without rinsing before you comb. I just started doing this on Friday! Many people say that it's easier to comb through the hair when you leave the conditioner in the hair. As my DD has straight, fine hair I didn't bother with it when we were treating her a few weeks ago. It was already easy to comb through her hair and I usually combed her hair when it was dry. I never found many live lice that way. The key to the conditioner is that it clumps the hair in sticky masses and the little buggers can't crawl around to escape the COMB OF DEATH. You don't want it too goopy where all you see is white conditioner on the comb, but you do want enough on the head so the hair sticks together.

Comb through all the way to the tips of the hair in small sections and wipe with a keenex between every wipe. Hold the comb up to a light source to make sure that you get everything off of the comb before you comb again so you don't just reintroduce the lice to a different section of hair. Toss the used keenex into a plastic bag every few swipes and have a glass of water available to swish the comb in when one of the lice gets caught between the teeth. I found lots and lots of lice that way. We are currently following the combing schedule called "The Lice Program" here: http://www.microscopy-uk.org.uk/theliceprogram/index.html
We're on "Day 4" which is a day of rest :). We'll be combing again on Wednesday.

Good luck to the OP. I hope you can lick them sooner that I will!

omg:scared: :scared: I feel your pain with your DD and six weeks into lice.
MY dd had long blonde thick hair..totally impossible to get rid of. Eventually the doctor gave me medicine...In the meantime the entire family, DS, DH & myself all got it. was a total total nightmare....

DH&DS was easy to get rid of. only about 2 days for them. I feel sorry for anyone who has ever come in contact with these creatures. It is a horror show but I would never ever cancel my trip to WDW. After putting out 4K in advance and not a life threatening disease, Iwould do what I needed to do and go on my merry way.

And yes, I would probably strip the sheets myself in the room & explain to housekeeping.

My neighbors had it, I know exactly what to do. You have to use RID, but then physically comb out EVERY single 'egg' and 'bug'. Buy TEA TREE shampoo and use it everyday. It is very likely that other family members will get it, and they probably already have it. Don't get freaked out; You can fix this problem quickly! The main thing is that you have to pick every egg out or they will hatch and form new bugs in the head..leading to a bigger problem. Just do this while your children are watching TV. Maybe take a day off from the parks and do this. Lice don't like dirty hair..they love clean hair. Just make sure to have the sheets and pillow cases (and clothes) cleaned daily and after you think you have fixed the problem. Maybe you should try to research it a bit also.

DON'T WORRY..YOU'LL FIX IT!

Just try not to have ur kids swing their hair a lot and have then put it in a bun daily.

GOOD LUCK!!

Ok Does Anyone Know Where This Family Stayed Or Whether They Got Over The Lice, Still Have It...what Happened??

No, we don't, but ...
Welcome to the DIS!!!

It is easier to read when you use regular sentence format and not Title Format Where Every Word Is Capitalized :).

Even if her family stayed in the same resort in the very same room, I do not think it will effect your trip. Go and have a good time and don't worry about lice!

Ewww! Now THAT is as disgusting as the lice! I might have insisted on another room if they couldn't have cleaned it before we went to bed.
