I am traveling June 23-28 and need advice. I am traveling with
me-43
DM-73
Goddaughter-13 and her firend 14 f
We leave Greensboro NC at 6:15 EST and arrive Burbank at 8;23a.m.

Here is what I am thinking...

Monday am towncar scenic route to LA Union Station. 11:10 a.m Surfliner train to San Diego.

Spend one night in San Diego-- Any suggestions near the train station or other public transportation? My Goddaughter has never done this. She and her friend have never ridden a train other the the WDW train. Is this safe in San Diego? Maybe walk around or take the trolley tour (mom wants to do this).

Get up early Tuesday and go to the Zoo for the future vet so she says.
Tuesday afternoon take train to Anaheim arriving about 3:30 p.m. Check into to Desert Inn and Suites making a grocery store stop on the way from the train station to the hotel. Taxi probably.

Spend Tuesday afternoon, Wednesday and Thursday at Disneyland, DCA, etc and maybe take in the Princess character meal.

Friday take train to Burbank early train 8:00 and walk around Hollywood and maybe take in a tour, a studio tour, shop, a movie at ElCaptain and of course ice cream at the Disney Soda Fountain. Go to bed early as we leave on Saturday at 8:45 am

The plane tickets are round trip.
I can get the three legs of the trip on Amtrak for about 200 for all four of us.
The girls have been challenged to pack in one carryon!! so we wont have baggage to check.

Is this possible? Other suggestions? Any hotel suggestions in Burbank?

Thanks for all of your help in advance.

With all the train stops and towncars and cabs, I'd get a rental car, myself. You'll have alot more flexibility. Though the train is very busy and I'd say very safe.
There's alot to do in San Diego. I'd suggest staying in the harbor area. Then you can wander around the warf, maybe eat in little Italy. The harbor view is gorgeous. You could maybe even tour the Midway aircraft carrier or the historic ships that are a museum. Or, do the harbor boat tour.
I'm not sure that you've given yourself quite enough time at the zoo. You'd have time to see things, but it would definitel be cut short. There's alot of walking at the zoo.
Otherwise, sounds like a great trip!

I agree with Zoemakes5.

The zoo is great, but it is a lot of walking. Don't forget to account for check-out and travel time. You also may be a bit rushed arriving in Burbank at 08:30 and leaving from Union Station at 11:10, so not having to wait for checked baggage is smart.

On your return: Burbank and Hollywood are not actually within walking distance of each other, so you want to make sure your plans for the day don't zigzag back and forth. Some type of organized tour (or a rental car) could probably take care of those logistics. Your mom will probably get a kick out of looking at the stars on the sidewalk. I can't really recommend any nice shopping areas in Hollywood, other than the area near the Kodak Theater. I'm pretty sure they have nothing there that you don't have at home. You do not want to walk around Hollywood at night. If you want to window shop, you might prefer Beverly Hills.

If you are doing a studio tour with teens, I would definitely recommend Warner Brothers over Paramount. They have more things to see and probably more shows/movies sets that the girls would recognize.

Have fun!

I would really recommend the WB studio tour for teens and up. It was SO much fun. And once they start filming again, you usually get to see celebrities :)

We were able to see the finale of Gilmore Girls being filmed, George Lopez, Emma Roberts, Noah Wylie, Anne Hathaway and Steve Carell (they were filming Get Smart)

I've been on the tour 3 times- I LOVE it.

Thanks for the suggestions. What is the drive time during the week from Anaheim to San Diego (vice versa) and Burbank to Anaheim? I am considering renting a car for 24 hour on Friday when we are in Burbank.

Thanks again. I wish I had another week to stay!!

Anaheim/San Diego is a minimum of 90 minutes, even if you're my FAST-driving brother (lives in San Diego). And that's without hitting traffic.

I remember reading your post, but felt overwhelmed. I do adore the train, and would love to do the Surfliner. But I also have heard that you will need to use taxis to get to the zoo, hotels, etc. And another taxi from the Anaheim station to DLR.

I personally wouldn't mind doing that, but it's hard to recommend to another person to do such things. Heck, my then brand new hubby and I took public transportation from our home to the train station then the train up to Canada, then taxis to hotel, then next day a taxi to the cruise ship, and then all reversed on the way home. It was great fun for us, to use "public" transportation like that, but to recommend to another person to do that is a bit much! :)

I love that you're going to the zoo for your future vet. Especially THAT zoo. :)

I agree with the others that a morning is not enough time for the zoo... but if it's all you can fit in, get there first thing. Then pay the extra for the "bus tour". You'll see a lot, and avoid some of the hilly walking.

Sounds fun! I recommend staying down near the harbor. San Diego is one of our favorite places to go.

Thanks for all the suggestions. We are renting a car and hopefully be in San Diego before the train leaves union station. We are staying in the Harbor in San Diego and 3 nights in Anaheim and 1 night in Glendale. We should get to the zoo about 11:30 a.m. on Monday and have most of the day. Check into our hotel and go to sleep as we are on EST. Then be up and ready to go early.

Thanks again.
