I know I know....but it's the ONLY time we can go! I signed up for the Disney Club and will get hopper passes from TDS when the card comes in the mail. I booked "room only" but there is no Disney Club discount this week per the CM I spoke with. Any "tricks of the trade" from you Disney pros? We are staying at the WL.
Thanks!!

No, holiday rates are on that week, and they're gonna sock it to ya.

I am wondering if you could get a AAA discount, tho.

Would be worth a phone call.

If you need a car, book it NOW and keep checking to see if rates go lower later.

We are hoping to go down Jan 2 for a week. First time ever to disney at that time of year fo us.

Good luck, herc

Can you stay offsite this trip?? There would be better rates offsite at that time, then maybe, you can afford a rental car!!

Hi

Have you thought about staying at the Dolphin?

We are booked in from Dec 26-Jan 2 and got a great half price rate with my Disney Club card. The rate per night before tax is around $175, sorry don't have the info to hand to give the exact figure.

This was for a Lake View - a standard view would be even less. If you join Starwood preferred guest you stand a chance of a free upgrade too plus points on your stay.

If you want any more info let me know. :D

BTW I rang the Dolphin direct, I didn't book thru WDW Reservations. The website is www.swandolphin.com

Starwood preferred guest is at www.spg.com

HTH :D

We are staying at Dolphin 12/26-12/31 for $129.00/night Government/Teacher rate. Nurse's rate is same.

Thanks for all of your great suggestions guys! We really have our hearts set on the WL though. I asked the family yesterday if they wanted to try the Dolphin this time...got "no's" all around. I have heard it is a great place! What is a "nurse's rate"? I am a nurse...sounds interesting! Is the Dolphin the only resort that gives that discount?

I was also going to suggest the Swan/Dolphin! The rate for government employees/teachers/nurses is the same - $129 for a standard view room - when available. The Dolphin is especially lovely at Christmas time, and the location is great. But the Wilderness Lodge is spectacular at Christmas - so I don't blame your family for insisting on staying there!

Check out the DVC Rent or Trade Board and rent points from a member. A lot cheaper.

I have Boardwalk and Old Key West studios available to rent for arrival on Dec 22 or Dec 29, five nights. Save up to 60% off Disney's rate for the same room. Send me a PM if interested.

I am a DVC member who has a studio at VWL for rent for 12/29-1/2 and I also have a preferred studio at BWV booked the first day allowed for 12/29-1/3. Email for details.

The teacher/government/nurse rate is a special rate that is available to individuals in one of the aforementioned careers. The only thing you need to do is request that rate, in your case, the nurses rate when booking the ressie. When you arrive, have proof of employment. This can be a hospital or government ID or a pay stub with the employer's name on it. That's all you need to do to save at a Deluxe hotel in a great location.

We have stayed at the Dolphin in the past and love the location, the pool and the boat to two of the parks (Epcot and MGM) plus there are all of the benefits of staying onsite, except charging to your room at DTD and theme parks. Also, deliveries are made to the hotel guest relations instead of to your room. Of course, we made a purchase of two large items at the MK and they didn't put them in our room when we stayed at the AK Lodge in April.

We haven't stayed at the WL yet but plan to do so next April. Have a great trip where ever you stay. Maybe save the S/D for another trip if your family is set on WL.

we went last christmas and flew in christmas night got to WL at 3am but because our reservation actually started on 12-25 we saved tons of money, last year if you checked in on 12-25 you got the cheaper rate for your entire stay you might try that. otherwise i would just bite the bullet WL and dolphin dont even compare, we did WL for 4 nights, then HRH for 2 nights because of fotl and then dolphin for 2 nights, boy were we disappointed in dolphin, used nurse rate for those nights and it was available even though it was christmas. but i would definitely stay at WL, we love it there.

Thanks to everybody!!! We too got discounts at Christmas last year but I understand it was because of the post 9/11 slump in attendance. All I speak to say "no way" for this year. The WL it will have to be...all in my family are willing to give up other things just to stay there...it is our "home away from home"! When you walk into a place and automatically feel like the cares of the outside world are slipping away and you hear audible sighs from the whole family, you know you have found a special place! The feeling of peace and "belonging" is almost tangible. Sooo....we will eat pnut butter until then, but the WL it is!!! Thank you all for your time and efforts!!!
