So I went furniture shopping today. I found a great sofa and love-seat for a really good price. The only problem is that it only comes in khaki, but I think that's okay because it's a sturdy material and it won't show dog hair, well, much.

My problem is wall color. It's for an apartment, so I don't want to go too dark because I'll probably paint it back white when I move. Also, I'd like a color to brighten up the place.

Sooo, I'm leaning towards yellows. I figure if I get a good yellow...maybe light, maybe gold, maybe butter...help me... :lmao:

I also will have dark mahogany and cherry wood pieces, thinking of wine color window panels, and a rug with wine, burgundy, or red patterns. I may also buy a cool rug to hang as a wall treatment.

I'm lost!! What can I do to liven up khaki couches???

I don't know how to describe my tastes....I would decorate my whole place with Pier 1 furniture if that helps! (can't afford that)

Safari, but not too much, Asian, but not too much....see? I need your help. :sad2:

How about getting bright velvet cushions or spread a nice bright matching blanket on the back off the couch.

I was thinking that, maybe adding pillows, but do think the yellow walls and other color schemes would work with the khaki couches?

I think so cause it is more of a neutral color that will blend in. You could always get sofa covers if you want a different color once you get your sofas.

Go to a fabric store, look for a fabric with khaki as a dominant color that you really like, buy a yard (or a couple if you can sew and make pillows), and determine what other colors with the khaki look good to you. Then color match at Home Depot or Lowe's for the paint (I love butter, too). I like the idea that I am using the colors that l know (because of the fabric) look good together. Good luck!

Yellow would be a good backdrop for khaki, but make sure it's a true sunny yellow...you don't want a yellow with gold or tan undertones.

As far as punching it up with other colors...I vote for cranberry. Get a couple of cranberry pillows, get a couple of yellowish pillows, get a couple of pillows with a mix of cranberry & yellow. See if you can find an area rug with cranberry and yellow as the dominant tones, with maybe a hint of khaki. I'm seeing something along the lines of an oriental rug, but not one with a heavy, intricate pattern...one with more aof simple, clean-lined pattern. Cranberry window treatments should finish it off. A couple of cranberry candles. A couple of pictures or wall hanging with the cranberry, yellow and khaki tones. Basically, I bet you could find every thing at Pier One or Homegoods.

For the pillows, if you can't find pillows, get some plain pillows and look at cloth napkins. I saw a cute throw pillow which was a plain pillow insert and the person had taken two cloth napkins, sandwichwed the pillows in between them and then tied the 4 corners with a contrasting ribbon. Very cute!!!!

Hmmm. With the khaki coupled with mahagony and cherry wood tones, I would be more apt to go with a green... Not quite Mallard, but maybe more Dusty Olive. It'd make a nice accent wall color. I'd buy a quart and paint a big piece of foamcore. After it dries, tape it to the wall and see what you think. Sure, when you leave the apartment you'll have to give it at least two coats of white to cover it over, but why put off enjoying it today and tomorrow just if it means a bit more work in a year or two...?

I second the green. That'd look really nice with the khaki. My bedroom is green and burgandy, and I think khaki would go well with those colors.
