I just need ideas, support or anything else you can help me with! I am on the CAD, and here's my story...

Overall, I would like to lose 50 lbs, preferably 70 lbs. Last summer I started the CAD, and lost 20 lbs. I had no problems with it at all, and it seemed to be the perfect diet for me (except for the cooking part.. ;) ). Similar to the Atkins dieters, I have alot of energy, and am not hungry. I just love being able to eat my reward meal, because I have a HUGE sweet tooth. (I've even owned an ice cream/sweet shoppe before... ) Over the holidays, I fell off of the wagon. And, now I'm back on. This is the beginning of my 4th week, and my weight keeps fluctuating.

I don't understand why?!? On the best day, I will have lost 5.5 lbs during the past 3 wks. But, today, I had lost 3 lbs total. I am just so frustrated!!!

I'm telling myself to give it another week. Then if still no further results, change programs. I just don't know if I can totally cut out carbs. Can any of you Atkins followers give me any suggestions? (I was on A's a few years ago, and even lost 10 lbs the 1st week, but it quickly came back on...) I have PCOS, so these type of programs are very good for my body type. Also, I have an 18 mo. old dd, a f-t job, and am taking 2 real estate classes 2x/wk, with a dh whose schedule changes from day shift to night shift weekly. So, in my mind, I don't have enough time to exercise.

Is anyone else out there having problems along the way? I just need some advice...

Sorry for the long post, I'm just so frustrated and feel like giving up.

I am so happy to have this board to turn to... ;)

Hey Tiffany!

I'm sorry to hear you're feeling so low. I wish I had more experience with low carb diets, but the truth is, I can't do them. (though I tried the Atkin's along with my Mom and Cousin, who did really well, but, alas, my genetic comp. predisposes me to complications with cholesteral, despite all the tweaking we tried. So it's out for me.) Not recommending you switch plans, but with your schedule, you may want to invest in a consultation with a nutritionalist. They are great at helping you juggle your nutritional needs and fit them into YOUR lifestyle. Many poo-poo the low carb diets, but are a bit more accepting of the zone type. I don't have the answer for you, but don't give up, and know that you are still doing something, everyday, to help keep yourself healthy and on the road to the you you want to be. Keep smiling!

Keep the Faith!
Tracy

I'm sorry you are feeling discouraged :(
Have you tried changing your exercise routing and doing something a little different? Or asked your Dr what you might need to do differently?

I have hypothyroidism and it is very difficult for me to lose weight. I'm on a diet that is similar to the Zone- 40% carbs, 30% fat, 30% protein. No more than 1800 calories a day.
So far it's been successful. Slowly but surely, I am seeing results.

I'm no expert on this but you may want to cut down on the sweets with your reward meal. I don't know if I'm remembering correctly but didn't you tell us that you ate like a lot of sweets for your reward meal? I'm probably totally out of line, since I truly don't follw that program. Just trying to find a loop hole for you.

My husband is diabetic and finds that the regular Atkins plan works best for him. Ice cream or cookies or pasta, or potatoes send his blood sugar off the charts. Low carb has his sugar in control at between 90-110 every day. He would not respond well to the CAD simply because he has type II diabetes. Keeping his blood sugar normal keeps him from being hungry.

Sorry you are feeling discouraged. Perhaps you are losing inches instead of pounds? That's how Atkins has been working for me, when my scale isn't moving the inches are coming off.

I sure hope you see a loss that pleases you very soon.

Don't get discouraged, disneyfan551!!!

Maybe this program just isn't right for you this time around? Keep at it another few weeks to see if it finally "kicks in". Sorry to hear that you are so busy! I know it's hard to find time to exercise.

I was doing my own program based on something that worked for me several years ago, but I had a rough weekend and I got frustrated and decided to dig out an old WW book that I have. So, starting this week I am going to try WW again (just browsing through their site was enough to cheer me up!)

Hope you feel better soon. I wish there was a faster way to lose, but I know if I keep at it, I will get there eventually!

Weight Flucturates, its part of life. Is is close to "that time of hte month?" I know I can gain 5 pounds or more during my period. How often are you weighing yourself? IMO, you should only weigh yourself more then once a week, doing so may set yourself up for dissapointment. Personally 5.5 pounds in 3 weeks is pretty good.

If you are really sticking with your plan and not seeing results, I think I'd try something else. If you're not sticking with your plan.....perhaps you can figure out what is causing you to stray and work on that more.

It sounds like you have a very full schedule right now....its never easy when things get busy. Hang in there...I'm sure soon enough things will work out!

Hi! I don't really have any advice, just a ((((((HUG)))))) because I know how discouraging it can be. I'm on Weight Watchers and I don't have to give up sweets, but I do have to keep them in moderation to not go over my points for the day. If you decide CAD isn't working for you that might be an option.

Take care and don't give up!

Just wanted to send along some encouragement! TIffany, don't give up! I know it is hard...I just had three straight weeeks with no loss and I was working out and felt I was doing alright....but your body does what it wants I guess! :)
If something is not working, try something new...to give your body a kick start!
I found WW to work for me and I am now working out more than ever before. I was bored with aerobics, so I started doing Pilates...which I LOVE! and now I do Tae Bo too....
Don't give up, just try new things and you will find something that will work for you!

When I read your post that little voice inside my head kept screaming NO! NO! NO! DON'T STOP!! I don't know what to tell you about what changes you can make BUT DON"T STOP!! Getting started is the hardest part - that first step is monumental! Now that you have momentum - Keep trying!

Thanks so much for everyone's positive comments! The encouragement really helped me. :) I have found a new website called lowcarber.org, and they have several people that are on the CAD, and I have learned a few things that may be holding me back. So, I will need to fine tune my plan. I still feel really good, I just get so frustrated when I don't see the pounds come flying off, like they usually do.

I don't have an exercise program yet. However, I did watch the Walk Off The Pounds Express? infomercial (by accident!) this morning. So, I'm really considering buying some of the tapes.

Well, it's been 3 1/2 wks & I'm down 6.5 lbs. Got to keep trying! A BIG thanks again for all of the support, it was exactly what I needed! :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

Tiffany, you're doing such a great job, its so inspiring to read your posts. Remember, "slow and steady wins the race" and "stay the course". Annoying cliches, I know, but they are so true.

Wishing you more and more successes!

Linda

I just wanted to thank all of you for your encouraging words! I have finally made the decision to make a change. I am going to try low-fat, and eat more healthy. And, I bought the WOTP tapes, and hope to try them out Wed!

Now, I'm just really confused about what to eat, now that I can eat carbs during the day again! Does anyone know of any good websites that I can turn to for further information? I really do appreciate any help that I can get!

Here's pixie dust to all of us.... :sunny:
