Help identifying an old ride

Seemed so high tech at the time! The seats moved!!
There was a lot of tech in those seats. The safety bars were not there to keep you from falling out (though I do think they meant to lock you in so you would not run around a pitch-black theater during the show), but also for the speakers and the smell and water effects to individualize the experience for each person and add "reactions" from other guests. I was surprised to learn that the flashlights above the alien were actually CMs with flashlights though - I thought that would have been automated too.

My daughter still has a plush of Skippy, the alien that appears in the pre-show to "demonstrate teleportation." She didn't like the alien in the attraction, but she did like Skippy.
Forgot about Skippy. Loved the pre-show.

I remember sitting down, and getting something and the harness closed on me in my slouched position, and it was uncomfortable to say the least! Subsequent rides I made sure to sit up nice and tall!

Ooooo, not sure you wanted to be sitting up nice and tall with that alien loose in the dark - slouched and hiding was better!

I remember Mission to Mars. I loved it as an 8 year-old. I also remember loving Alien Encounter as a teen or young adult. It was never meant for young children and I seem to recall warning signs that so many parents ignored. Sitting in the dark, strapped to your seat while the sounds of alien footsteps come closer and closer. Suddenly, there was a breath of air at your neck. That’s when the screams really kicked in. Of course, you missed the full effect if you had long hair!!

Oh, yes, I do remember poor Skippy, too!

Love Skippy! Now I hope they have plans for the space in Tomorrowland instead of just using it for stroller parking. After Tron opens, time to move on to the next new thing in Tomorrowland......

I think it originally was flight to the moon, then updated to mission to mars. Then closed and came back as Alien Encounter.
This is correct. I rode it as flight to the moon in 1975 when I was almost 11y/o

Seriously! Such a waste of space:sad2:

Man, I remember going on Alien Encounter not long after it opened as a teenager - it scared me half to death. I grabbed the arm of some poor random guy next to me and probably gave him an additional fright for his life...
One of the best parts of that attraction was watching people lose their minds!
