Hi All!

I am knew to this corner of the DIS boards so please forgive me if I break social conventions or just come across like an idiot. :)

For the past three trips to the WORLD (05, 07, and this year) I have made info booklets for the people on our trip. The books usually include park hours, dinner ressies, fun facts, trivia, room for autographs, etc. Basically stuff to keep you occupied in line and info you might need.

So this year we are taking our 12 year old nephew and I want to snaz it up a bit. I am thinking of a pirate theme and I have some ideas for the content but what I am looking for help with is the book it self. Since all of you are craft masters, I thought you could help. I was hopping to give the books a bit of a pirate theme and I would like to make it look like a treasure chest somehow.

in 2007 the book was small like 3 by 4 inches and spiral bound, I would like the book itself to be no bigger than 8.5 X 5.5 inches. and some what durable but also flexible.

Any ideas?

Ok, njbeachbum, I grew up in South Jersey and I will help you out ANY WAY I can, if I could just get a soft pretzel and some real water ice!

Well, since I'm so far away, I'll even settle for hearing how much you are enjoying them! :rotfl:

Okay, back to business... (Sorry, I dream of the food from there!) :confused3

Your nephew is going to be thrilled! Making it look like a treasure chest is an fantastic idea! I love it! You could make it a view directly of the front of a treasure box partially open with trinkets spilling down the front. That would keep it rectangular. (You could even glue jewels on it or decorate hidden mickeys within the loot!) I can PM you a quick sketch if you want (because my description does not sound like the voices in my head.) :lmao:

I've make a small book, too, in the past for our cruises:

- using Avery 4x6 printable heavy duty postcards - they are thick, but pliable.

- printing out the pages on our home printer.

- get it spiral bound for $1 each at Office Max.

- cover the outside front and back sheet with inexpensive laminate sheets to protect it from the elements.

It sounds like I include alot of what you put in yours:
- disney trivia & facts
- autograph pages
- itinerary
- directory of places on the ship

I also include:

- pages for personal notes (can decorate with images of Mickey Mouse in pirate gear - search on 'pirate mickey' in Google Images)

- pirate names list (can be found at http://www.stupidstuff.org/main/piratename.htm)

- pirate vocabulary (can be foudn at http://www.jollyrogercayman.com/web pages/kids corner.htm)

- pirate jokes (can be found at http://www.olivekids.com/piratejokes.html)

- fold-out maps (print on a sheet of paper and fold to fit into lanyard pocket or envelope. Folding instructions are at http://www.survivaliq.com/navigation/map-folding-techniques.htm)

- envelope (can purchase a dozen 4"x6" 'thank you' cards from Dollar Tree and include only the envelope in a spiral binding - it can hold reciepts, tickets, maps, etc.)

and also pages of games or hunts to keep them busy for when they are waiting (lines, meals, etc.):

- word finds (Disney ones can be found here: http://themouseforless.com/downloads/WordSearch.shtml)

- hidden mickey scavenger hunt (if you don't have the lists already, they can be found at http://www.hiddenmickeysguide.com/catalog.php)

- digital scavenger hunt (make a list of things that they need to take pictures of, such as 'with 2 CMs from different countries, with a pirate, in front of a certain location, etc.)

I can also PM you with a link to photos of these if you would like to see how these look. This is more than you asked for, I know!!!

BTW, The title under your avatar is awesome!

PS. And no one here understands cheesesteaks with Wiz!!!
