I stepped on a tube of Icyhot this morning and the entire tube is now in my carpet. I wiped it up and covered it in powder. The smell is still so strong (with the windows open all day) that I can not stand to be in the house! Any ideas on what to do?????:confused3

UPDATE: I decided to wash the towels I had cleaned up the initial mess with. HUGE mistake!!! Now my washing machine reeks!! I've run it 3 times....1 with bleach and 2 with vinegar and I still can't wash clothes!!!

THis just keeps going from bad to worse!

Try this to get it out of the carpet.

Remove ointment from fabric.
5
Scrape off the excess ointment on the surface of the fabric with a spoon.

6
Sprinkle an absorbent powder, such as baking soda, onto the surface of the fabric to soak up the oils in the ointment.

7
Apply mild soap, such as a dishwashing detergent, to a soft cloth and rub into the fabric using a circular motion. If the fabric is delicate, rub the cloth in one direction, not in a back and forth motion, to avoid causing damage. Let the soap sit for five minutes.

8
Run hot water into a sink and squirt a few drops of mild soap into the water. Place the fabric in the water to soak for at least half an hour to allow the water and soap to penetrate the stain. If the stain is on an area of furniture or carpet that cannot be soaked, pour hot water from a height of two feet over the stain.

9
Using a brush, rub the area with a brush to remove any existing stains from the ointment. Rinse one last time under running water or pour more water over the area, then soak up the moisture with a dry towel. Allow the area to dry before reusing.

Do you happen to have any extra carpet from when it was installed?

If you do, you can call a carpet place and see if they have an installer that would be willing to cut the stained area out, and install a new carpet "patch".

It is amazing if you can find someone that knows what they are doing, you will never be able to tell where the repair was made.

We have a carpet cleaning business, if you have pushed it into the carpet and scrubed you have probably pushed it toward the pad. When cleaning it , it requires suction. It could take awhile for the smell to leave. I would call a carpet company out and have them look. It may require to not just patch, but if it is in the pad they may have to cut a piece of new pad to replace that as well.

Thanks for the tip....Didn't work....

Hi chellt,

I am so sorry. Accidents happen, huh? :( I don't have any advice to give you, except for Air freshener, and to keep your ceiling fan going.

Let us know how it goes.

Spend $20 on a shop vac at lowes or home depot. Pour water over it and suck it up immediately. Or rent a carpet cleaner.

Even living in a rental, you an pay for your own repairs. You made the mess, so they'd probably make you pay for it anyways. Although, they usually dont do as good of a job like you would if you found some one yourself.

Carpets need to be cleaned anyway..... Going to leave my windows open tomorrow while I am at work. Hopefully I won't get robbed.....:confused3

They do sell window locks at the hardware store. It's just little screw on clamps that you place along the track. It prevents the window from being opened any further. That way you can leave your windows open, but not far enough for some one to come in through it.

Get yourself a professional, you have pushed into the pad, now the pad needs help. This could be more costly later , than if you call a carpet cleaning company. Saves you the headache from doing the work.
