Help!!! I think I've pulled a muscle in my neck!!!

From doing sit ups?! What do I do?!?! Acck! I dont want to stop trying to do them so soon in the game. Am I doing them incorrectly?

From my years in the Army I learned that you do NOT need to do a sit-up the way most of us were taught.

You have NO need to crunch ALL the way to your knees. Place your hands behind your head, with your fingers "loosely" interlaced.(This offers support to your neck) SLOWLY raise yourself until you are about half-way up, then SLOWLY return to the floor. The tendancy a lot of us have, is to think we have to go FAST, and all the way!

The important physiological part of this excercise is the contraction of the tummy muscles. It also helps to very gradually increase your repetitions.

Gosh I remember when I was in HS they timed us to see how many sit ups we could do in say 60 seconds. Of course I was alot thinner back then and more in shape too. I was using the method that I had been taught way back then. Arms crossed over chest and elbows touch the knees.

I will try your method though!

BTW, I took a hot shower and I seem to have loosened it up a little. It is still sore though.
 
I pulled a muscle in my shoulder about two weeks ago and it's progressively getting worse because I can't rest it (I have to pick up children. Some of those suckers are HEAVY.) so I would just say avoid doing excersize with that part because well, it sucks when it won't heal.

Or do it the way everyone else said. :jester:
 

Just wanted to add to johns instrustions. Keep your shoulder back and down don't pull on the neck and keep your elbow out of your sight. How your neck feels better.
 
YIKES Des. I sure hope your neck is better very soon. Nothing worse than a sore neck.

Try rubbing Bio-Freeze on it. This was something my DH chiropractor gave to him...You may have to call some of your local drugstores...but I know if you call a few Dr's they may have some. This will really help heal the sore muscle in your neck. It is soooo much better than ben-gay. If you have to buy anything try Sports Creme. It works better than Ben-Gay. HTH
