I'm moving to a new apartment next week. I have two dogs and a cat. My oldest dog has moved with me two times, but one time was only to the upstairs apartment. My cat has moved with me to the upstairs apartment. My youngest dog has been in the same apartment his whole life.

I know to bring all their toys and blankets they like, I know to put the cat in one room in the new place with his food, litter, and familiar blankets, etc...

But I'm nervous!!! What if he stops eating or freaks out??? The previous renters had dogs, but I don't think they had cats.

Should I clean it again before I move in? Any tips?

I think my dogs will be okay, other than running around like maniacs for a few hours 'cause they'll smell the dogs that were there before, but I think my cat is going to be traumatized. He's been sick before with urinary crystals, about 4 times in two months, but since we switched to a special diet wet food, he hasn't had any in over a year and half (knock wood). I don't know if stress 'caused those or what. And then I worry about the liver disease....I'm insane.

Ugh, I'm sick. If he gets sick, this will be the worst possible time with money.

Any suggestions?

Since your cat moved before, he/she should be ok with the new move. There will be some adjustment to the new place -- lots of sniffing and rubbing against corners, walls, doors so the scent is left and it becomes more familiar. Overall, cats tend to be fairly adaptable and while they don't love change, they can manage it.

I believe a lot depends on how YOU react. If you maintain a calm approach, it will be sensed by your pets and they will respond accordingly.

I'm already moving stuff over there slowly, so the day I actually move the cat in, things will already be in place.

why did I get a cat??? :teeth: My dogs are no problem!

Because you are a good soul and deep inside you are really a cat person. ;)

It'll be ok... tell your cat it's just another adventure. Or rename the cat Puss 'n Boots!
