Help!! I think I might need to cancel....

Our trip (FTP) has been booked and paid for. We're driving down stopping in Mobile for a wedding, so 2 hotel nights (Priceline) have also been paid for. We're supposed to be leaving on July 11 returning on July 21. To make a long story short, several things have happened in the last week to really make me question whether we need to take this trip or not. 1) our house just sold, closing on july 25 (we have to be completely moved out by the 25th, I haven't even started packing) 2) just found out we aren't getting our mid-year bonus. Was going to use this for food, gas, etc., so we would REALLY be on a budget once we got there. 3) my DH's brother is having a heart cath on july 9 with possible surgery on july 10th. I would reschedule but was informed today at work that due to several deadlines that have to be met by year end, we would be working extended hours and couldn't schedule anymore time off unless it was already scheduled. Help!! We really need a vacation and I'm sure we could work around all of this but my gut feeling is pretty negative right now. Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Wow, mom, you do have a lot up in the air. No good advice, just my good wishes you are able to sort through it in the coming days.

OK, it may be possible to run yourself ragged and accomplish each and everything on your need to do list. But, why don't you try to write down the most important things that need to be done first. Packing- is there anyway that you could organize a friends and family get together and see how much you could get done over a weekend or even a day. Even if everything is packed into boxes your job would be alot easier to deal with. Are you in the wedding or going as guests. Maybe that would give you leeway concerning the possible surgery. There are many options to having your house cleaned out. Temporary storage areas are an idea, with you leaving valuable valuables with trusted folk. If you could coordinate the final packing with people you know, you would be able to come back to a completely packed house and a slightly less hectic move. Just some ideas for you to think about. Chin Up!! Think of it this way.... The Vacation is a MUST... so how do you go about rearranging other things so that the vacation is a go. I would personally only cancel a vacation because of a family EMERGENCY.. nothing less.

Disnee Dad Says............................................How far are you moving? If it's a long way you just box everything up, if it's a short distance, you call in some friends and if you are organized it will be sweet.
When we moved 9 years ago it as only about four miles. We got about five male friends, had a pickup, a small Uhaul and a couple of cars. Lined up about 3 female friends.
All the women were at the new house, with one big guy in case anything really heavy had to be moved. The rest of us guys just started moving stuff, one room at a time.
We made twice the trips we needed to, but it was sure nice to empty the UHaul in less than five minutes.
We really didn't pack anything except maybe glasses.
The whole house was moved and put away in five hours, like we had been at the new house for years!

I'd go on the trip.

Let's see, Disney on a tight budget, or no Disney. Ask the millions who will never get to go what the right answer to that one is.

A company that let's you take the trip and warns you about the extra hours that are coming, or working for a bankrupt company (me), or even worse, no job at all.

Sorry to hear about BIL, but there are many who would be thrilled just to have him.

So many, myself included, look at the problems and frustrations we are faced with from day to day, and say oh god, what's next. When maybe we should look at the same problems and see that they aren't so big and tough.

I'm not happy my company is bankrupt, I am happy that someone may buy us, and for now I still have a job.

I'm not happy they took my sick pay, but I'm happy I didn't need it in the first place.

When I sell my home, I'll be happy to have a home to sell.

So work it out, and take the trip, because Disnee Dad Says so!

Me too! Never give up a Disney trip!! Family vacations/memories are way too special!! (Unless of course you are traveling to disney with my DH who grumbles the whole way there and then has a great time!)
