Oh, my! I have a feeling that I'm going to consume more than 20 grams o' carbs today!

We are snowed in for Day #2 (6-10" of snow expected today, 25 mph winds tonight!) and I've already got a blueberry pie baking. I made about 30 pies last summer before starting LC and I froze them raw. This is the last one. Not much sugar in the filling, but still not good for me, esp. the white flour in the crust.

ANYWAY, I'm here with my girls (6 and 8) and they want me to bake cookies. I WANT to bake cookies! I don't have the funky almond, oak, soy, tree bark flour needed for the "good for me" cookie recipes around here! I just have nasty old white flour, evil brown sugar, and the diabolical yet heavenly Nestle Toll House chocolate chips!

WHAT SHOULD I DO!?!? Could I substitute Splenda for the white sugar and then only eat 1/2 a dozen cookies instead of a whole dozen? Should I just ignore my precious, snowbound angels and DIS all day?

Help me, please!!!

Carmen :earseek:

Back away from the white flour - slowly! :D

If you can make the cookies as Atkins friendly as possible that would be a good start. Can you bake the cookies for your kiddos and not eat any yourself if you can't make them the way you need to? Are you one of those people who will react badly if you eat the flour and/or sugar? My fear is I will have one of those carb hang overs everybody talks about when they go off plan. If you can tolerate the processed flour/sugar then I would only have a few cookies. I like how the author of SBD puts it - he says that we really don't realize how little chocolate it takes to satisfy a craving. Try eating just 2 or 3 and really enjoying them. You may find you don't need any more than that.

I wish you well. Please let me us know what you decided to do and hang in there, okay?

DON'T BAKE THEM!!!!!

Trust me, we were having bad weather Sunday and I gave in and baked cookies and then I ate them and we still have some around. My advice is to find something else that they would like to do besides bake and get involved with that and then DIS some more.

Good luck with the decision you have to make.

OOOHHH! Tuff one! I LOVE to bake cookies with the kids when we are snowed in. We should be getting that snow tonight into tomorrow. They are saying 9 to 15 inches for us!

Anyhow, back to your question. How's your will power?;) I think I'd bake the cookies and try to stay away or have 1 or 2 at most. However, I'm on WW and have flex pts that I could justify with. Your having 1 or 2 would introduce all that nasty stuff back into your system. That really sets you back right? I guess if you couldn't stay away, I would forgo the cookies. Take the kids out sledding instead and earn some activity! Or do a crossword puzzle, board game, scrapbook...... Lots of quality time things that don't revolve around food. (A pretty darn good lesson for your children!:) )Last time I got stuck inside with the kids because temps were below zero, we did major cleaning. Got alot accomplished and the day flew by!

Good luck and have a great time whatever you do!

Oh my!! :scared1: You're really in a tight spot!! It's hard to ignore those little sweeties!

Maybe you could come up with an alternate activity to distract them from the cookies. The one that comes to mind for me is an indoor picnic. Tell the kids you're going on a picnic, spread a blanket on the living room floor, fix the girls some sandwiches and a lo-carb lunch for you. You could maybe even drape a sheet over some chairs and call it a tent and say you are camping. Spend the afternoon playing some games--maybe Mother May I? or some board games. I'll bet what they really want is some fun with Mom!

Resist those cookies, Carmen!!! You can do it!!! :D

I say bake the cookies. Snowed in kids are way more important than any diet. Just try to limit yourself as to how many YOU eat. I have gone through enough munchie cheat free days now, that i can actually trust myself to say I'm only gonna have 4 cookies and then ONLY eat those 4. Which is mazing considering the cookies in the house right now are Oreo cookies('m gonna bake a cake with them this weekend for our superbowl/Blue Collar comedy tour movie party). I'm sure your kids will be extremely delighted to take the majority of the batch off your hands. And if you do wind up eating too many you can always go right back on the wagon. Or substitute them for something else you would normally have.

I have learned that if i fall off the diet wagon for 1 day, its not the end of the world. I just climb back up on it the next morning. Good luck

This is too funny! We are snowed in too and dd4 wants to bake cookies as well. I am still on Induction, but, like you said those nasty chocolate chips!!!

I love how you are all so supportive.

I wouldn't be able to make cookies without tasting, if you can, great.

I would tell the girls you don't have the NASTY ingredients and if you did you'd make them.

Kids like making suggestions but you have the last word.

Make sugar free jello molds or cubes. I'm sure they'd like them just as much.

Hang in there!

I had the urge to make cookies yesterday, so this is what I did....I ate my whole healthy lunch (so I wasn't hungry), popped a piece of gum in my mouth(now my mouth was busy....) and made the cookies. I ate no dough (HUGE accomplishment for me :p ) and finally, after all were baked, I ate ONE single cookie. Oddly enough, it really didn't appeal to me all that much....

can you enlist the help of your DD's...to keep the cookies OUT of your mouth??? Maybe have them take the baked cookies off the trays, and once cooled put them away, out of sight? My DS will ask me how much different foods *cost* me - I'll tell you, those kids can be really perceptive sometimes! Helps to keep me on track though.....

Too bad you can't get to the store. There's a low-carb atkins cookie mix now. I know what you mean - I'm a cookie a holic too. Around the holidays I made them with Splenda to at least cut down on sugar, but I barely lost any weight because of the flower.

Good luck! Let your DDs eat them, and maybe bag them for friends or teachers.

I did NOT make cookies. The pie is out of the oven, but I haven't cut it yet.

My Mom had car trouble so I had to make a couple of phone calls for her, my Dad called from AZ (my parents winter in Tucson but my mom's still here b/c my sis had a baby last week) trying to help my mom, then a good friend called to vent about work problems!

Hey, my problem got solved by helping others solve their problems!!! The kids are distracted now so they'll have to be satisfied with blueberry pie and (locarb) vanilla ice cream!

Thanks for your support!!!!!!!!

Carmen

My youngest DS loves to bake cookies and both DSs loves to eat them. Last time we were home together & the desire to bake hit, I tried this compromise. I made 1/2 recipe of chocolate chip cookies & only baked the number that the boys were going to eat. I kept a few unbaked cookies in the fridge, for the next day. I shaped the remaining dough & froze it. It was just enough for another cookie treat, later in the week. It still took willpower-- not to hit the fridge & scoff off some chips from the batter, but it worked well for me.

I am here to help. Here is a good cookie recipe for our kind of cookies!!! It might be on our recipe section but I know for sure it is at Low Carb Friends. I do not remember the carb count for each cookie but seems like it is around 3 for each one.

1 cup Splenda
1 cup peanut butter
1 egg

Mix together and form into small balls and then use a fork to put the little grid marks. Bake at 325 for apprx 15-18 minutes.

These are great and easy to make.

A little while ago I was thinking about the recipe I posted and I decided to go make some right then!! I made a little variation though. I added 2 TLBS cocoa powder along with 2 TLBS additional Splenda and just mixed like normal. They were SOOOOO good!!

I am glad that you survived the cookie ordeal and that you were able to help others yesterday. Today is a new day and hopefully no urges will hit us all.:D
