and I have never done it at home before. My salon couldn't squeeze me in by tomorrow and I have a wedding tomorrow night:( :(

I need the least messy with the best results. My hair is dark brown and need to cover a few greys. (well ok alot) tell me what you use.

Thank you.

it is easy and not messy and then you can make a real appointment with a hairdresser to do your hair right.......

the name of the stuff is "fanciful roux" ......it comes in a plastic bottle and you can use it whenever you need a touch up when your hair dresser can't get to you......doing your hair a color before you go to a wedding is a little risky......

good luck and have a great time

Wait...It is relatively easy to do yourself, but I would try some place like Hair Cuttery or Master Cuts before I did it myself for a wedding.

I use Loreal and I do it myself. But twice a year I go to the salon and have it "fixed" becuase I never get the color matching. I think I would rather pay for it somewhere cheaper then do it myself.

But, if you feel like you can...Loreal never drips on me!

I used Clairol's Loving Care....especially when I couldn't get in to my hairdresser....now I just make an appointment everytime I'm there...6 weeks apart.
Clairol has tons of colors too, check out your local drugstore or supermarket. Good luck!

If your hair is very dark brown the weekly rinse stuff might not work for you. My hair won't hold the color of those temp hair formulas. Even the permanent ones aren't nearly as dramatic for me as the pictures they show on the box....my hair is dark brown and very thick.

If your just interested in covering gray...go to the store, and pick a color close to yours. They store bought ones are very easy to use.

I don't have much hair to color :(

Quick,, Easy,, Cheep,, Big laugh garunteed,,, try using red or green kool aid:) just kidding,, but it would definately make a statement:P

dw uses loving care by clarol when i do hers

I get mine done at the salon, but I can tell you that that Fanciful rinse was what my mother used for many years and it covered the gray hair for about 2-3 shampoo's.

It's in a grey bottle with a red tip. It'll be a good way for you to get temporary coverage and nothing overly drastic in case the color is not to your liking.

I've used Feria once or twice, but the times i've done it myself i've missed spots and it doesn't come out very even. My hair is blond though so it always seemed more obvious where the dark spots are.

Good luck.

That's pretty much what I was thinking. Don't get me wrong, I do my own with permanent dye and I'm totally clueless, but if you've never done it before, the day before a wedding is NOT the time to start! :)

I can picture the box but I can't think of the name. Ha! I use one of the shades in a box with purple on it, semi-permanent. Works good, is easy. Natural Instincts from Clairol...that's it! :teeth: And it makes my hair really shiny. That's something! LOL!

Be very careful!! Go with a product that is semi or Demi permanent. Also when you look at the color on the box go one shade lighter then you think. Also stay away from Ash shades.
Go with a golden or warm brown. My other advice would be ask your hairdresser if someone else could apply the color for her (most salons have an assistant who is trained)since she is buisy and you could even leave wet. Tell her that you have an event to go to. I know I would find a way to squeeze you in if it were me.
Good luck

I suggest using the Natural instincts also, but please call the clairol help line first. Try to find out what color the salon uses on your hair, and the help line can tell you what to use. If your hair is below your shoulders or very curly buy 2 boxes of color. Unless you have very short har you might want to go ahead and buy 2, and return the 2nd one if you don't need it.

The easiest way to get the color on evenly wihtout mess is to stand in yoru tub while doing it (hopefuly you have a mirror in view if not you'll have to jsut be careful in front of the mirror). You want to make sure you get the color down ot the roots by using the tip of the bottle to part the hair.

Another vote for semi-permenant. I've used the products by both Loreal and I think Clairol? Something Naturals? Tan box with Green design/writing. Both have worked well. They last about 3-6 weeks, depending upon how often you wash your hair.

My hairdresser cancelled on me 2 hours before my appt (day before my son's Communion), so I called JCPenny's & they have a bunch of hair designers there so there was someone who could take me immediately. Not only that but (even though it is about $25 more than what I paid my old hair stylist) I like this new hair stylist even better!!! She made my hair look just gorgeous!! At Penny's they have different "levels" of stylist & if you get a "senior stylist" it cost more to have your hair colored, cut, etc...

I would not chance doing my own. I used to color my own & then wash it out in the shower. Not only did I make a big mess at home but I'd always miss spots in the back. It was such a nuisance ~ I swore I'd never color my own hair again!!

Good luck to you!

OK so I did a little begging and got into the salon.:wizard: Although he can't do it until 8:30pm tonight! Oh well, that's what I get for missing my last appointment. I normally do go every 6 weeks, but since I missed my last one its going on almost 9 and I gotta tell you, not very attractive.

At least he got you in! :teeth: I used to do the semi-permanant color every other month or so, then treated myself at the salon on the second floor overlooking a lake every six months. :) Hey, have to pamper ourselves some time! But now that my hair is really long, I have them do it all the time. But I go a lot less frequently! ;) I think most places would try to squeeze someone in if they mention an event coming up...especially if they want to keep that customer! Glad you got in. :)
