You sure have a lot of problems!
First of all, you need to run complete diagnotics on your machine to get rid of all viruses and other nasties currently on your PC.
(1) Make sure you have the latest and up-to-date virus definition from Norton.
(2) Run Norton AntiVirus and have it fix as much as it can.
(3) Install and run Lavasoft's AdAware mentioned by Dan. I use the free version. AdAware will find a lot of the spyware and other nasty stuff on your PC and delete it.
(4) Install and run Spybot Search & Destroy (
http://www.spybot.info/en/index.html). It finds some things that Adaware misses.
(5) Make sure you have a firewall on your PC if you have a high speed connection! I use Zone Alarm, but EZ Armor suggested by oogieboogie will probably work too.
(6) Once you get your PC clean and protected, make sure that you do not open attachments from people unless you are absolutely sure that they are not infected with a virus.
(7) Set up Norton to run at least once a week and perhaps every single night.
(8) Set up a "public" email account over on
www.yahoo.com and save your home email address for friends and family. I use my yahoo account for my email here, for entering emails on forms, etc. I get spam on my yahoo account, but the filters I set up delete most of it. I get very, very little spam (1-2 per month) on my private account. If your current roadrunner email is already full of spam, ditch it and get a new address. Give that address out to only your friends and family. If you can, I'd keep both roadrunner email addresses active for about a month or two while you make the transition.
Good luck! You have a lot of work ahead of you, but you'll be happier when you have a stable computer
