I am in the market for a carpet steam cleaner vacuum shampooer dealie...

Do you use a carpet shampooer or steamer? What brand do you have? What are the things you like and don't like about it? Would you buy another?

Give me the dirt (and the machine to clean it!!!)

TIA :surfweb:

I use bissell little green 1400-7, it's a small carpet cleaner and work good as a $60 price. recommend it if your work isn't big.

Having murdered machines in the past. This time I rented one from Home Depot. It was cheap($20 for half day) and that machine worked 100000 times better than any home use ones.
For the amount of times I shampoo the rugs I figure it's cost effective to just rent it.

I do have a bissel spot bot for little spot touch ups though.

We have a Hoover cleaner- looks like an upright vaccuum- works GREAT- has attachment to do stairs, upholstery etc. Only thing have to empty the bucket more than you do with a rental machine- it is smaller but other than that for the price of renting twice we have our own and then I can take our time with it- not like when you rent one and have to do everything in a day- I like to do the vehicles at least once a year too. We paid around $100 for it.

I so agree. Its the Rug Doctor. Its powerful, its cheap, has a large capacity, sucks a lot of water back, and if I get the wide track one, I can do every room in a couple of hours, and the best part is, I don't have to store it in my house and create more clutter. But, you can buy it for over $500 if you really want it. ;)

I've also killed a few... 3 I think. I just rent one now. I just did them last month with a rug dr and they look wonderful.

I have a Hoover, I can't remember which model but it was a more expensive one. It's total crap. My sil has a Hoover also and it's a cheaper model and it works great! Mine has been in and out of the repair shop so many times and it needs to go again. I absolutely hate it! I have rented a Rug Doctor (when mine was in the shop and I had puking kids :sad2:) and it did work alot better than mine did when it was new and hadn't broken yet. Rug Doctor products are awesome too, their spot cleaner for pet spots works great and really helps with puke smells, nothing else worked on the smell except that stuff.

I have had my a Bissell for 10 years and love it. It has extensions to do my stairs and my cars. I put some Oxyclean in it when I clean and it gets everything out when it dries. I would totally buy it again, it made my house livable with 2 kids, sippy cup spots and pets.

My only complaint is that it tends to leak while it's standing still so after I rinse the soap out I let it dry in the garage before I bring it into the house.

I agree with renting the Rug Doctor, and then maybe getting a smaller cleaner (like the Little Green Machine) for spot cleaning.

We haven't bought a cleaner, but have borrowed different ones from friends and they just don't do a great job for us. The most recent one we borrowed was a higher end Hoover, and then we ended up renting the Rug Doctor anyway! It still picked up what the other left behind.

This must be the same one I have and I love it! It works great and I love having it on hand when I get the urge to clean carpets at midnight. Definitely pays for itself in no time.:goodvibes

What kind of Oxyclean? Do you add the regular stuff to the carpet cleaner or is there something special for these machines?

After renting these units, we went online and bought a re-furb from Nautavac. It is GREAT!!! No little thing off the store shelf could begin to compare.
Rug Doctor is a joke compared to these.

We got a great deal on our refurb unit during a big Spring Cleaning sale.
I don't see anything like that going on this year.

A new unit runs $799.00
