HELP! I leave tomorrow and coming down with flu

Sorry, that stinks! We're all sick here too but have 12 days to get better before we go thank goodness. If I were you, I would drink airborne, every 3 hours or whatever it is suggested on the box or use Zicam. Try to go to bed early, use Melatonin to help you fall asleep and sleep better. Drink tons of water. Bring medicine in case symptoms worsen. Good luck!

I love the alkaseltzer cold/flu tabs. They are really gross going down but make you feel great within a few minutes.

Airborne might not help since there are already symptoms. Airborne doesn't work for anyway. :) My suggestion, get a lot of rest and fluids, wash that yuk right out of you!! good luck!!!

Airborne still has vitamins. ;) I don't use it for prevention, I use it for boosting my immune system.

As for symptoms I usually just try to drink fluids too.

I don't know if you have it down there but buckleys is great!!!!!!!!!!! It taste like **** but it works great!!!!!!!

Try to get a doctor today - they have something they can give you, forget what it is called - for when you just get the flu. You might be able to get your doctor to just talk to you on the phone and they will phone in a script. Take care.

Some people swear that at the first symptoms if you do airborne and zycam every couple of hours it will really shorten your flu/cold. I don't really know if I buy into that or not. I have a cold right now that I've had for 2 weeks now.

I guess just rest and fluids, once you are there you can take a variety of meds to help mask the symptoms and make you feel better on a temporary basis.

It is a medical fact that zinc will shorten the severity of a cold by half and cut the length of the cold by half.

But for the flu - this is what you need to ask your doctor if you can take - it must be taken shortly after first flu symptoms. This is the strongest thing but you need a doctor to give it.

We always get our flu vaccines (without preservative) and we don't get the flu.

Here is what I do when I get sick and cant be sick:
I take:
Vitamin C
B vitamins
Ginsing
Echinachea
Goldenseal
Airborne
Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar in water
I take these at the Maximum levels. I drink atleast 3 lg bottles of water.
And as far as food, I eat very hearty things like baked chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, things like that.
I stay away from all sugars, candy alcohol.
And I take the nighttime version of Nyquil. That way I sleep it off.
When taking all of this, I get very tired. I just try to slam it out in 24 hours.
Another poster had a good idea to take the daytime version of cold medicine. When you need to function, it will really really help.
Oh good luck.
I hope you feel better soon soon!:wizard:

yes definitely...I use the Tylenol cold and flu non drowsy formula and it really helps me alot....

Can I also hesitantly and gently suggest no one use the nasal zicam? I used to love it..but it can ruin your nasal passages. Use the oral stuff.

Emily, I've used the oral Zicam but not the nasal. Unfortunately the oral doesn't work for me any better than Airborne. :( None of those work for me. :( Did you use the nasal Zicam and have issues? Just curious. :)

It's DISNEYLAND!!! Once you get past the entrance gates, head down Main St, and get your first glimpse of the castle, that should cure what ails you.....:upsidedow

i completely understand not being able to reschedule a DL trip due to moderate illness. but this is exactly why we should all be loading up on vitamin c before we visit the parks, and also making sure we wash our hands enough while we are there. because lots of people go there when they are sick.

i know there are times that it cannot be avoided. we almost had to do the same this time around, and i always swore i would never take my kids to DL sick. but we were on a 2 week, 2300 mile trip through california and arizona to visit relatives and go to DL, and since we live in idaho, it wasn't like we can just pop down to anaheim anytime we want anymore. on the 3rd day after leaving home, my youngest started with a runny nose and a bit of a fever. we still had a week before DL at that point, but i knew my other 2 would probably get whatever he had before it was all said and done. i pumped them all full of emergen-C, and fortunately, it was short lived and fairly mild. thankfully, not one of them had any symptoms by the time we were scheduled to be in the parks. but i admit, i would have taken them if they'd been showing symptoms, as long as they were well enough to go. they'd been waiting for this trip for months, and we couldn't possibly reschedule.

so everybody, make sure you bulk up on your vitamin c and other things to build up your immune system before and during your trip, because it isn't uncommon for people to be sick while there. airplanes are notorious for catching illness, and sometimes just the added stress of preparing for a trip suppresses your immune system.

to the OP, i hope you're feeling better fast!

Ya the oral didn't do much for me either. The nasal did seem to, but yes it did desensitize my sense of smell..just a tiny bit the first cold. The second time it was a little worse. I started to wonder if it was the zicam and did some research and I guess I'm not alone!

My sense of smell has come back, but I only used it those two times and it was a long time ago. Some people have had theirs go away completely

I had a cold last October at DL, came down with it the day before we left. I was so bummed! I took Sudafed, and it really helped keep my head clear.

But I have heard if you go to the doctor with the flu EARLY they can give you an anti-viral to help.

I too have read stories about the Zicam in the nose, and people not being able to smell/taste again after that. That was enough for me to stay away from that stuff!

I woke up with something this morning went to the DR office and got a shot! I feel so much better!!! Just in time since we leave tomorrow. :cool1:
