Can anyone give me some suggestions on what to use on my fingerails to keep them hard and to prevent them from spliting and breaking?
I hate this time of year. My nails grow long all summer because I keep them painted. When the school year begins and I go back to work they all split and break because they are in water all day. We are not allowed any polish, not even clear. What could I put on my nails to protect them?????????

Baby I got what you need!!! It's a product called Nail Envy. I get mine at Trade Secret or the JC Penney salon but you can find it on ebay and many other places. It's made by OPI. It's not cheap though. Around $14 a bottle but worth every dimel It's like a topcoat. You put on 2 coats then add 1 more every other day and once a week remove and start over. I had the softest weakest nails ever until someone recommended it to me. I'm singing it's praises now and including it in everyones xmas stocking this year. There are also folks who swear by a product called Nailtiques but I didn't care much for it. With Nail Envy, they don't split, break, chip, peel or bend. You MUST try it!

I second the OPI Nail Envy, I've been using it for years.

But, it sounds like you won't be able to do that either? Hmmmm...

I have horrible nails too and I've never heard of the OPI nail envy. I'll have to go looking for it tomorrow! Thanks for the tip. :D

There's a product by O.P.I. called Nail Envy.. It's awesome! You can find it any beauty supply store or at any salon.

When I started taking prenatal vitamins mine started growing beautifully - it was all the extra folic acid! You can buy tablets of 400-800 mg - take those and they are wonderful. I've also seen good nail creams, you massge it into your nails and cuticles. Avon has some nice ones and I believe you can buy that online. Someone else said just take a vitamin E capsule and split it open and massage that into your nails and cuticles... Then you aren't bending the polish rule.

I have the same problem with weak and splitting nails. I am going to look for the Nail Envy--- Would they have it at a place like Sally Beauty Supply or is it more readily available??

I've never seen any OPI products in the Sally's around me.

After 12 years of artifical nails I finally took them off about a month and a half ago! OMG! I was such an idiot. :sad2:

The weak worn spots are still growing out but I have been using a product called Nails Alive (similiar I guess to the Nail Envy) and it has worked wonders. :teeth:

I know we have a manicurist on the board somewhere. It is poohswendy?

When I was younger mine were bad a lot too, and still get bad if I swim a lot, etc. (and I can't grow them long) I was told by my MD to eat lots of yogurt and jello. Within a week I saw a difference. I still do that now if I have an episode and it always gets better within a week. I just add one of each (one little bowl or container) to my diet a day, and they're better!

Love Ulta! Just got one of the Ulta-brand nail polishs and it's fantastic. Looks like I'll be going back for some Nail Envy soon. I chew on my nails way too much (writing at the computer all day) and they are weak also.
