...you have 2 children under 10 (free UPHs) and you are staying at an AllStar or moderate resort. You have to take a number of factors into consideration.
For the sake of argument, let take use a 6 night/7 day vacation to do our comparisons. For a 6-night stay, you may have only purchased a 5-day PH ($231.11 per adult and $183.18 per child, advance purchase prices). Total cost for a family of 4: $828.58. Cost of 2 adult UPHs + 2 Free Childrens' UPHs for 6 nights:$666.70. Savings:$161.88.
Or let's say that you would have purchased UPHs for the family anyway. The childrens' passes would have cost you $266.25 each. The cost of buying all 4 UPHs would be $1199.20. You save $532.50 on passes.
Now, for the cost of the room. You will pay the rack rate for the room if you go with this package. The rack rate for Value Resorts (standard view) during Regular Season is $99 per night plus 12% tax ($110.88 per night). If you can get an AP rate, that room would go for $69 per night plus tax ($77.28 per night). Difference:$33.66 more per night, or $201.96 for 6 nights.
A moderate normally goes for $144 per night plus 11.5% tax ($160.56 per night or $963.36 for 6 nights). An AP rate would be closer to $110.39 per night with taxes ($662.31 for 6 nights). The difference would be $301.05.
A deluxe (standard view) is $266.49 per night (with taxes, or $1598.91 for 6 nights). With AP discount, $143.83 per night (with tax, $863.01 for 6 nights). The difference: $735.90.
This of course is assuming that AP rate will be available during that time period and that you woud be able to procure one. It also assumes that AP rates would be similar to what they have been historically. And it also does not take into consideration the additional cost of purchasing an AP over the cost of the UPHs, the disadvantage of not having the "pluses" that a UPH provides or the neat pin/lanyard/or lithograph you would get with your package.
My advise is that if you want a guaranteed savings right now, book the package deal. If AP rates come out later and they look better, you can cancel the package and book at the AP rate.
