Help...I have a tickle!!!

Got a dreaded head cold, and along with it comes that miserable throat tickle that makes your eyes water, cough like crazy and gag. I can't even breath when it hits. Almost feels like I inhaled a dust particle and it is stuck in my throat. UGH!!!! Has anyone come up with a remedy that works? Im miserable, I cannot cough without gagging.

Honey. Big ole teaspoon helps me. (My uncle always mixed his honey with a shot of whiskey) Also, I love Ricola throat lozenges. Hope you feel better.
