Help! I-95 @ Thanksgiving!

We have to be in Orlando by 11/29-Friday, the day after Thanksgiving. We will be driving from NY-planning to leave late on THE busiest travel day of the year-Wed. before Thanksgiving. We will be on the road all day Thursday-the sacrifice we are makinf this yr. to be in Disney and then a DCL Wonder cruise. Anyway, any advice about traveling on Thanksgiving? Does anyone have any experience w/ I-95 btwn D.C. and Jacksonville on Thanksgiving?

Actually, Thanksgiving DAY is not that busy on the highways. The day before is busy, and the Sunday after is busy, on T DAY however, people are usually already where they want to be.

I agree. Being a Holiday, you'll avoid the horror that is DC at rush hours. Plus the truck traffic will probably be lighter as well.
So I think your sacrafice of having to travel on Thanksgiving Day will at least have some reward connected with it.
Just as a suggestion, I'd still take the I-295 by-pass around Richmond and around Jacksonville---.

Thanks for the advice. We live close enough to NYC and we usually go to the parade, so we were thinking of going to the balloon inflation on Wed. night and then heading out, assuming I am organized enough. I was thinking of packing a Turkey dinner to heat up when we get to Orlando!!

Nezy, I'm glad to see we're not the only family that will be giving up T-day dinner to travel to Disney. We are also leaving the day before (around noon) and driving for about 10 hours hoping to be in Disney early Friday. Hopefully we will find a halfway decent place to take our two DS's for a turkey dinner on the way.
