Please, does anyone know how to remove Red sharpie ink from a kitchen counter? Nail polish remover? Toothpaste?

ARGH, please help asap.

Rubbing alcohol -- the higher concentration works best. I think it's 94% instead of the 80%, but 80% can work too. It might just take more of it and more elbow grease.

Do you have any spray cleaner with bleach in it? That will take it right out.

I have not tried it on marker, but those Magic Erasers seem to remove things that a scrub brush and other solutions can't.

THANK YOU!

Tried the rubbing alcohol and it got most of it, then tried the magic eraser and it finished the job.

Thanks DIS peeps! I knew I could count on you! :thumbsup2

(And wish I could blame one of the kids for this too :sad2::rolleyes1 )

Yes Magic Eraser is the bomb for taking out any stains or marks on hard surfaces!!!:thumbsup2

Just for future issues... GooGone also works very well.

I had my younger DD at work with me and she got permanent marker all over my desk (most of it soaked through the paper). We had some GooGone in the cabinet. I poured a bit on and it wiped right off with a paper towel. :thumbsup2

Teachers know how to get rid of Sharpie markers, usually dirty words.

This works great: cover the ink marks with more ink -- dry erase marker. The two inks form a chemical bond, and you can then wipe away both. Of course, you need to be sure your surface is dry erase friendly.

Magic Erasers really are magic. Worked well on the black sharpie that DD decided to decorate my linoleum floor with, while we were moving into our new house.. :)

Hairspray use to be the "thing" to try but now most airsprays don't contain alcohol which is what would remove permanate marker from surfaces. I find that nail polish remover works.

Glad you got it out! My kids got black Sharpie all over my brand new dining room table on DH's watch ... he called the Sharpie company and they told him to use rubbing alcohol.

Yep. Dry erase markers over permanent markers. They cancel each other out, we have done this many times. :thumbsup2

OP, thanks for posting. And everyone else, thanks for answering.

I was planning to pour shampoo and conditioner into 3 ounce bottles so that I could put them in my carry-on bag. I decided to label the bottles with red sharpie, and I managed to get red sharpie on the bathroom counter.

Yesterday I picked up a Magic Eraser With Extra Power, based on the advice here. (I wasn't looking for the Extra Power, but the others came in a multi-pack which was bigger than what I wanted.)

It worked - the sharpie ink is gone!

Thank you all.

White Fuming Nitric Acid!

However, it might also get rid of a lot of the countertop and damage your lungs, but it will definitely get rid of the red marks!
