Help! How much to tip concierge?

I read an article recently that says you should tip concierge a lump sum up front in addition to the end of your stay. I admit that I am clueless as to what is appropriate. We will be staying at the Poly concierge in September, and I need to learn what to tip! Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

This is a big debate issue around here. It looks like the majority states that concierge will not accept tips. However, others have found that they can accept gifts such as goodies instead and it seems to be a big hit with CMs.
