Help- here now Disney rash

I had on one or two visits there, back like 2001/2 time frame. As described above. I have not had it though since then. :confused3

I've had the rash a few times, regardless of what time of year we visit. I find putting my legs into a hot tub really helps, and also epsom salt baths.

My DS got it but only only once out of many trips. It looked worse that it felt for him. Cortisone creams may help could be mental that your appling something to the area. Cool baths and Ice once your back to your room helps more than creams will.

My husband also gets it but he uses the gold bond powder and this year before our trip we found a gold bond powder spray, which he loves and it is a stick form which was easy to carry around.

If it's a circulation issue, has anyone tried those compression socks or calf sleeves to help stop or prevent? I wear them sometimes when I run. They're not the most attractive but you can find some cute colors and designs.

I've never heard of the Disney Rash before. Maybe because we always go in the fall or winter months to the parks??

Take a shower and cool off/dry off without underwear for the night. Get Gold Bond Medicated Powder and liberally apply to all areas. Sleep without underwear for the night. Wake up in the morning with a happy face. It saved our vacation!!!!

Is anyone else wondering how going without underwear helps a rash on your lower legs?

Wrapped legs /calves in ace bandages today over the really bad areas - hoping to block from sun. Don't think it is circulation as DD (11) has it too and she is not fair, forty nor fat. I think we have the "other" Disney rash that is heat related . The underwear thing (even if it works)- will not work in my room- rooming with nephew and sister. Don't want to traumatize my 21 year old nephew .

happned to my daughter last year. We also used the gold bond remedy, put it directly on the rash and some on a large bandaid and she was fine the next day.

Well, there are several types of Disney rash it would seem.

Almost certainly.

For me, it's always after I go on a ride that gets my legs wet. If I'm not having a wet-ride trip, I don't get it. I also get it at Disneyland, and again, only after my legs get wet from the ride water.

For me it's almost certainly a sensitivity to what they put in the water (tons of chlorine most likely).

Mine hurts, mine itches, and although a nice hot epsom salt bath increases the pain and itching temporarily, it ultimately helps a lot.

That would protect from all types of rashes, it seems. But I'm not sure you're supposed to wear those for a whole day at a time. (on the other hand, the ones sold for travelers and people with circulation issues are meant to be worn for many many hours in a row)

Never hit me in the first 12 trips but got me last October. I have never heard of Disney rash and just blamed it on bug bites from the "Fastpass Hell" section of Fantasmic on the far left next to a bunch of bushes. I started itching during the show and when we got back to the room saw that both ankles were covered with a rash. Luckily, it didn't happen again last February and I hope to avoid it on our December trip.

And I'm with the crowd still waiting on an explanation of the underwear 'cause I sleep that way anyway and it didn't help my rash at all!

I've determined it's not from the heat. I don't get it every summer. It happens after I get wet on a water ride or if it rains a lot and water gets splashed onto my legs from my flip flops. It doesn't itch horribly but looks like I got sunburned really bad. But it's not hot like a sunburn. And I don't get it after going in the pools at Disney, only after wet rides or walking in the parks. And sometimes it's not even sunny out and I get it.

my daughter suffered with vasculitis, this is a serious and life threatening condition that causes swelling of blood vessels. she never got red rashes, her marks were more like bruises, and they were spread over her legs and body. she was very poorly with it and it was so painful she had trouble weight bearing and walking. so to me it doesn't sound like its any form of vasculitis as this condition does not go away with-out medical treatment.
my suggestion would be a good anti inflammatory pill as this may help to reduce any pain caused by any possible swelling, and as pp have said cold clothes and rest.
hope it get better soon.

cal:)

I get this every trip. I didn't know what it was our first trip and actually read that I am not alone on here after getting back.

I have found for myself that it tends to burn and get irritated when a lot of particles from the concrete get kicked up onto my legs. I try not to sit on the concrete if at all possible as it seems to make it feel worse. Benadryl cream helps to soothe mine. Generally after a few days of using that mine will turn from bright red to a darker red and the go away.

There are many variables that could be the trigger for the rash.

It could be the laundry soap the bedding is washed in, chlorine in the pool, laundry detergent at the laundry mat, etc.

I have a son with eczema so I have to be careful about changing products I use. He also has some food allergies that cause him to break out. A couple summers ago he started breaking out when we DH used the aerosol (spray) sunblock on him. I typically use more expensive sunblock and the "face" sun block all over his entire body. The aerosol cans contain a chemical that cause him to break out.

Florida water may also be the trigger (shower water, not pool water) as it does contain differences than your home state.

Unfortunately since you are on vacation there are too many variables to narrow it down to the exact cause.

LOL I was wondering too and then thought maybe it helps with circulation? I'm guessing some peeps panties/drawers are constrictive or too tight cutting off circulation to the legs? I really don't know but I do think it's very possible and with the heat and diet on WDW trips I know I've had swollen feet unlike anywhere else ever once ... Cankle like several years ago!
I've never heard of the disney rash or gotten a rash there so I certainly learn something new everyday on this board ... I have gotten sand flea bites from the lagoon MK area resort beaches, but I've always thought the water was very dodgy and dirty so of course the beaches would have fleas or something?
Must remember to buy & pack gold bond powder ... Since I've written I've never gotten the disney rash in 30 years of visits you can bet I might get it LOL

I have been a victim of Disney rash!! It is not a rash and does not itch.

Mine was a red rash, and itched like crazy!! I developed it after spending the day at Animal Kingdom in May, and the rash started on both legs right above my sock line. Felt like I had poison ivy, it itched so bad! As others have stated, it lasted until I got back home. For the record, that was the only time out of several WDW trips I'd gotten it; most likely because it was the only time I've gone when it was hot (mid-90's).

I got this on my feet/ankles last summer during our trip...it showed up on our first day and freaked me out a little. I kept it covered with a cool cloth that night in the room and it went away and never got as bad the rest of the trip, so there is hope it could go away! I have really bad circulation in my feet, especially on the right side and that was where it was the worse so the explanations on here make sense. I never realized there was a "Disney rash" until I got home and found a thread on here...it made me feel a little better to know it wasn't just me!

Definitely wondering the same thing! :confused3

Yes, it is from the heat/humidity and standing and walking so much (combination). I do not get in the water so it's not from that. Dr. said don't worry about it, clears up quickly and no lasting harm - just cosmetic - the main thing is don't irritate it with washcloth - wash very gently over it with hand and it won't burn - at least that worked with me. It's a temporary vascular condition. I don't get it there in the cooler months.
