My husband had an unplanned medical emergency that resulted in surgery and hospitalization. We were scheduled to be at Aulani during that time. I had purchased insurance through DVC. Has anyone gone through this? What were you able to get reimbursed for. Disney was great and let me bank some of the points rather that putting them into holding. However 172 points did have to go into holding? Could I get reimbursed for those in cash from the insurance policy? We have to use them by October and I don't think we will be able to do that. My other concern is the flight cost. Our tickets were over $5000 to Hawaii. United will allow me to rebook with a service charge but they have to also be used by October. It going to be very hard to spend $5000 on airfare. Help i am just sick about all of this and I don't know what to do?

I just posted a question about this as well. I talked to member services, they said points in holding that cannot be used be the end of the use year get a partial cash reimbursement based on your annual dues. Nothing was said about other expenses. I would love to hear the answers to this. Sorry about your husband's and the money lost, that's hard. I hope you can work this out.

I think it should cover your airfare and dues on the points.

I posted a link on another thread that lists coverage. Here it is:

Your losses MAY be covered depending on when you bought the insurance and whether the medical issue could be linked to a pre-existing condition. If you bought the insurance for all of the points you used when the annual DVC fees for those points were due then you do not need to worry about a pre-existing condition.
Call Travelex. Good luck!!!

You need to contact the claims administrator to determine what is covered, what you need to do, and how long you have to do it. Their goal is to not pay you so you need to take notes and be timely.

The fact that you can still use your points and airfare for another trip may keep you from collecting.

The important thing is that your husband is OK.

Let us know what happens. Good luck. :goodvibes

While not the same insurance, we purchased DCL travel insurance for our Med cruise. We were robbed in Barcelona at a Disney sponsored hotel, and had to file a claim through their insurance. It was not a great experience. We had to go up the DCL food chain to finally get about 75% compensation. Just about everything you can imagine is excluded. Read your travel insurance contract. Be prepared to spend lots of time and be diligent about compensation. Good luck.
