Help! Freakin' out here!

I am no help because my daughter was a year old on our first trip. But, I just wanted to say congratulations!!

We are in the same boat as you! We booked our trip to Disney in Sept 07 for this Sept 08. Thought maybe I'd be pregnant for the trip but that would be doable. I found out in December that we got pregnant sooner than we planned! I am due Aug. 16th. Figured I wasn't going to stress until things got further along. Now that I am at 12 weeks, I called my pediatrician. He said after 6 weeks a child can fly, go to malls and church and gatherings. NOT BEFORE 6 WEEKS. I said, "are you sure it's ok to bring a 6 week old to Disney? DISNEY? where there are tons of kids all around?" He answered, "well. it's not the smartest thing bc anytime there are kids around you risk your child getting sick, so the BEST thing would be to postpone it at least a month BUT we do say at 6 weeks it CAN be done."

So, that said, I pushed my trip 1 week. lol. yes one week. This way my child will be exactly 6 weeks when I go! lol. I can't push it anymore bc then it gets into the holiday season. We are going to TOTALLY take it slow and easy and if we spend 2 full days just relaxing at the hotel...so be it. I want to make sure the baby is comfy and I am rested (I will be recovering from a c-section). I know it's not the smartest move, but I feel ok with it. My parents are coming and can help out TREMENDOUSLY if need be. They dont do so many rides and my dad has to take it slow too since he had a triple bypass years ago. WE ARE NOT GOING TO FLY. I don't want to put a 6 week old on a plane even with the doctor's ok bc that is just increasing the risk the baby will get sick.

Good Luck. Let us know what you decide!

We took both our Daughthers when they were 4 months old. No troubles at all! Actually my infant was easier than my 4 year old on this last trip.

I'm not sure if this is your first...but I recommended it just for the confidence factor. I just felt great after handling plane ride, taking an infant to a restaurant, dealing with hotel room. I really felt like I knew what I was doing :rotfl:

Enjoy and Congrats!!

Opps never mind...Not your first ;)

I do have to say..My 2nd DD did have colic that started around 6 weeks..Ended at 3 months. If you are all in the same hotel room might be tough for your older child to sleep.

I needed to fly when our premature daughter (still on heart monitor and only 5 pounds) was only 3 months old (adjusted age about 1 month, she was 2 month early) It was a 2-3 hour flight. She was awesome. I couldn't really not go as it was my older son who needed to get to college (1400miles away~we drove him out so he would have car and flew home). All the restaurants, setting up dorm room, hotel, etc. just seemed to sooth her! Previous our youngest had been about 4-6 months to travel any length with our babies. Now I know better, they really only need one thing until about 6 months and that is their Mama (well, okay and diapers!). Oh yes, and she was delivered emergency c-section (not so fun) but at 2-10 weeks I was traveling daily back and forth to NICU each day so a 3 hour flight was a piece of cake. oh yes, and when she was 6 months old? (adj age 4 mon. and weighing 10 pounds by then) We took her to Disney!

I see you chose to delay a bit. You will have an awesome time! and Enjoy your new little one and Disney of course!

I think postponing is a good idea. A few years back, my best friend and I planned a trip for May '05 for DL's 50th anniversary. About six months into the plans, I discovered that we would have a stowaway. After a lot of talking, we decided to wait until September, when Russ was six months old instead of eight weeks old. He was a VERY easy-going baby and we were already getting a lot of sleep at that point, but I was still tired and getting used to the whole newborn thing. At six months, he was GREAT.

Plus, now you just have to plan another trip to see the Christmas decorations. ;)

ETA: Russ flew for the first time at 7 weeks old, and his doctor said we could fly at 3 weeks old if we wanted to.

As a mother of an angel baby:angel: who was born prematurely, I just want to say that it warms my heart to hear stories like yours.

What better way to celebrate new life than to go to the most magical place on earth!!!

COngratulations! I had an unexpected pregnancy almost 5 years ago! My next youngest was 8!! But after almost 5 years......he is the BEST! Having older children really makes you appreciate the baby years. They go by so quickly! ENJOY THIS TIME!:thumbsup2

Well... how will *you* feel at 6 weeks post-partum? I'm not sure that I'd want to go trucking around Disney in the sheape I was in between healing, exhaustion, clothes not fitting right. Especially in the cold season I think I'd skip taking a newborn on a big trip.
