Okay, so, I really want to ride The Incredible Hulk Coaster .. but. ....

I have a major phobia of roller coasters.

I ride them, sure [have ridden everest at wdw, mummy at universal] but in line I freak out and I get the fast breathing, shaking, looking around, then right when I am about to sit down in the seat, I just start crying and wanting to run away. Basically, [edited] I am as afraid as a dog during a thunder storm.

ANYWAYS.

I could gladly ride Dueling Dragons just because it doesn't look tall, even if the feet hang.

But The Hulk .. I am just .. scared to death.

Any tips to overcome fear?

I am a HUGE coaster chicken!!!With that said, the only way I can ride DD is on a good day and my wife talks to me constantly to take my mind off the hieghts..I have found the Hulk a little more easyer cuase you get shot out which to me takes the edge off it a bit!!Once your shot out its all fun from there. The only time I'm scared is looking out that tunnel and waighting for the launch..

The next time you try and ride it donnt ride by yourself.Take someone you are real commfy with and talk your head off too that person. It works for me!!

Hope this helps!!:thumbsup2

Thank you! That actually helped :)

I just hate the feeling of dropping.

I started crying .. and accidentally wet myself on space mountain on the bunny hop "drops"

I've always found the best way to overcome your fear is to just do it. Don't stand around watching it...just take a deep breath and go for it. If you spend too much time watching, you will probably psych yourself out and not do it.

On our first trip to USO, we did all the rides except Hulk and Dr. Doom. I wanted so badly to do Hulk, but standing there underneath it looking up, I just froze and couldn't do it. The next summer we went, the same thing happened. Finally on the last day of our trip, DH said, I'm doing it. And I decided to just go for it with him. I was shaking in line. But as a previous poster mentioned, the scariest part is the initial thrust in the beginning. After that, it really is fun. Very smooth and fast. We loved it so much we went on it several more times right after that. I wish I had tried it before my last day there! Can't wait to go back this summer. It will be the first thing we do. Just go for it and don't think about it.

Thats my biggest problem metro I psych myself out..I have rode the biggest and baddest coasters in FL(SHIEKRA is on top of my list at BG Tampa)it took alot of talking to get me onit, but once the fun starts its all GOOOOOD!!!!:thumbsup2

The most important thing to do:

SCREAM

:scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

Seriously, scream your head off. Scream as loud as you want, as much as you want. Scream from the initial launch (Hulk) or drop (Dragons). Scream until you reach the brake station just before the load/unload platform. Scream if you're scared or if you're having a good time. Just scream. It will make it more fun for you to "let it out."

I was told this earlier this year and I tried it. And since then, all rides have become so much more fun. Be it the "wooo-hoooo!!!!" or the "aiiiiiiiiiiieeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!" just scream.

:cool2:

Although I don't have any advice on overcoming your fear, I do advise riding Popeye's or Duddley Doo-Right's prior to riding the Hulk. That way, if you have another accident, no one will know.:teeth:

:lmao: :lmao: good advise

The Hulk is my favorite coaster! The launch is insane but I am on the crazy side anyway ;)

I would say, get a buddy, sit in the middle so you feel safe and
then just hold on for the best ride. Just tell yourself, what's the worst that could happen? Your not doing to die. The rush you will get after is amazing :)

When we were just there in July, it rained one night but before the park closed they opened the Hulk again and my husband was like "Go on!"
In The rain? I thought he was trying to kill me :rotfl:
He stayed with the kids and I ran up, the whole platform was empty, very eerie, and I sat with a woman and daughter whol never rode before, we only had like 10 people on with us, we all screamed our heads off and when we pulled back into the station, it was odd not seeing anyone else waiting there
It's was the best :goodvibes

I am a cognitive therapist (and roller coaster lover who adores Hulk), so here is my advice:
Think about all the laws, requirements and regulations that amusement parks are bound by. Think of the great safety record of IOA in general and of B&M (the manufacturer of Hulk). Think of all the built in failsafes on any roller coaster. Think of all the millions of people who have ridden it safely over the years...think of all the fun they're had that you are missing...you deserve it too! So when the panic starts, picture a giant red stop sign in your mind as a cue that it's flawed thinking. Then replace it with reminding yourself that the facts say you are safe, no matter what your emotions might be saying. And as someone else said, scream your head off! It's a great way to let out that anxiety and no one will think anything about it because people scream like crazy all the time on coasters.

Just as metro said take a deep breath and try not to talk yourself out of it and just think well the ride is only a little over 2 mins and you will probably be like my DW that was terrified of it and then when she rode it she loved it and the same was for dragons she said she would never ride it but once she did she could get enough of it :thumbsup2

Here is some food for thought:

Dueling Dragons is taller than Hulk and the drops are bigger.

There is no real dropping sensation on the Hulk because you are going so fast (think driving on the highway and going down a hill, you never feel that because of speed, but on some of them if you just creeped over the edge, it'd feel awful).

If you do DD, try Ice (blue) first. It twists you around a lot, but that is it... minus that first drop!! Fire (red) has two drops and I find it a bit more intense... i, too, hate the stomach dropping feeling.

So yeah, as someone who has cried in line for a roller coaster, do the hulk. I never get that stomach dropping feeling and it's such an adrenaline rush!
