As I have mentioned the company I work for has removed chairs from the factory floor and everyone has to stand. Can anyone suggest any kind of support for you feet? At the end of a shift the soles of my feet throb with pain, and I am not the only one that says that. As an ofside though I went into the Birmingham Ikea and the woman I spoke to there (I had left my purse with my clocking in card on a bed, no money just the card :confused3 ) said that management at Ikea had just introduced a rule preventing people from sitting down. What is it with this enforced standing business? I don't see any management standing thoughout a working day.

I'm not sure if this would be the same. I used to suffer from really tired feet whilst in the parks. I find that Birkenstock shoes are brillant for relieving tired feet. Nothing worse when the balls of your feet are really sore.

Have you seen this article re health and safety when standing for long periods of time?

Just found another article that may be of use - standing - it mentions about the need for PPE etc.

Thanks for the link, the union should help but after the fiasco of last years pay vote I don't think they have the influence to do anything. The area union reps recommended acceptance, which did involve redundancies but they have only used volentary ones, and a 7% pay rise the local reps recommended rejection and the more miltiant side won. They went back for a second vote and had exactly the same information but recomended acceptance and it passed but we lost a fair bit of back pay over it, and if it had failed the second time the redundancy package would have gone from 3 weeks per year to 1 1/2 weeks per year.

Another vote for Birkenstocks here. If you're not allowed to wear them at work you'll probably find them a bit of a relief in the evenings as they support your foot in a different way to regular shoes and may take the pressure off the sore bits. I wear a pair as slippers around the house.
